Branch 22 Roebling, NJ By Jennifer Emri Branch 22 Secretary Our recent children’s Christmas party was a great success. The children all received wonderful presents from Santa, who promised to visit us again next year. We ended the afternoon with a fantastic pizza party and movie festival. It was a great way to start the holiday celebration for the kids. Before the party, election of branch officers was held with the following results: Dale Cole, president; Dennis Kish, vice president; Jennifer Emri, secretary; Barbara Emri, treasurer; and Eva Barota and Maria Tomosi, auditors. Barbara Emri also serves as branch coordinator. The oath of office was given by former national vice president Zoltán B. Emri. All officers pledged to make this the best year ever for our branch. Our branch continues to hold Hungarian language classes every week. Our beginners are doing very well now. Maria Tomosi has been a very helpful teacher. The students have expanded their vocabularies, and things are starting to come together. The advanced class continues to do very well, also. Zoltán Emri challenges the advanced students every week with something new Branch 28 President Steve Sándor (left), Secretary-Treasurer Irene Nemeth (right) and Santa (Vice President Steve Novak, center) share a moment with the children at the branch’s Christmas party. (Photo by Frank Schauer) or something they may have forgotten. Our classes meet every Thursday in the classrooms of Holy Assumption Church from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend. On behalf of the branch, we wish everyone a very safe and happy year. Branch 26 Sharon, PA By Betty Panin Branch 26 President Branch 26 held its annual Christmas party on Saturday, Dec. 14. Those in attendance enjoyed a delicious buffet lunch of kolbász, sauerkraut, hot dogs, scalloped potatoes, baked beans, cookies and refreshments. After lunch, well-known local magician Ray Witkowski thrilled the children with his magical tricks. Then came a visit from the big man from the North, Santa Claus (skillfully portrayed by Bill Puhala), who distributed bags of candy, fruit and popcorn balls. He also gave out coloring books, crayons and pencils supplied by the Home Office. It was also noted that our branch was once again participating in the holiday basket program sponsored by the Home Office. Our thanks go to the kitchen workers who helped make this party a success: Julie Dobay, Mary Bowser, Ceil Light and Betty Panin. The following officers were reelected to serve our branch in 1992: Betty Panin, president; Louis Varga, vice president; Julie Dobay, recording secretary; and Steve Emery, treasurer. Branch 26 extends its sincere thanks to the Home Office for its contribution to our Christmas party. Branch 28 Youngstown, OH Kathy Novak Branch 28 Reporter As the new year begins, several area Hungarian churches have new pastors to lead them. The Rev. George Mészáros was appointed to Holy Trinity Church in Farrell, Pa.; the Rev. John Trimbur began his service at St. Stephen of Hungary Church; and the Rev. Ken Sausman became intermediate minister to the people of the American-Hungarian Reformed Church. Special thanks to Frank Schauer for providing the photograph from the 1991 Christmas party. Best wishes to all those members celebrating birthdays or anniversaries this month. We also extend our sincere condolences to those members who have recently lost loved ones. Darago Branch 44 President Happy 1992 to all new and continuing Branch 44 members! The last quarter of 1991 was busy for our members. In October, Hungarian videos were enjoyed. In November, we played "Scholarship Bingo” and everyone went home a winner. There were stuffed animals, books, sweatshirts, member donated items and porcelain plates and books from the Home Office in Pittsburgh. In December members and guests "monkeyed around” at our annual holiday party. The How-D Monkey Show entertained guests. After the show, a monkey sat on the arm of each member. Branch Vice President Joe Naswadi distributed the children’s presents. Members sang Christmas carols, won door prizes, ate good food and had a chance to buy Hungarian goodies from Magyar Marketing. It was a happy year-end to a busy 1991 for Branch 44. If you lost a glass pyrex lid at the party, call 673-3347. The lid is clean and waiting for its owner.
