House Branch 18 Secretary The Branch 18 Ladies Auxiliary celebrated its 30th anniversary with a lovely banquet on Sept. 22. Lincoln Park Mayor Sail presented a special proclamation to the ladies. The William Penn Home Office also honored the Auxiliary with a special plaque. We thank them for the recognition. Individual thank you plaques were presented to Julius Macker, Julia Danko, Cecelia Vespremi, Martha Balosé, Elvira Kubovics and Mary Csanyi. (Mary, by the way, recently celebrated her 90th birthday. We love you, Mary, and are looking forward to your 100th.) Thank you also to the officers of Branch 18 for attending and making a gift of the banquet to the ladies. Our 50-year member banquet was held on Sept. 21. We had 56 members eligible to be honored this year. This is always a very touching event. Thank you to all who attended and made this another successful banquet. Happy 55th wedding anniversary to Mary and Frank Kato. May you have many more. Hope you are both on the road to health when you read this. Wishes for a wonderful vacation with her children in Arizona go to Ida Kanyo. Give them our love and come back safe and sound. Happy 25th anniversary, Tommy. I hope we celebrate the 50th. I love you. We have all started bowling by this time. I hope we get a lot better by May and tournament time. I sure would like to see that $ 10,000 go to someone this time. It sure was nice to see some of you at the convention. I was honored to attend. Till next time, stay healthy and happy. Branch 28 Youngstown, OH By Peg Sándor Branch 28 Secretary-Treasurer On Aug. 17 the red, white and green William Penn balloons were floating all over the backyard of Steve and Peg Sándor for their annual summer bacon fry. We had a great turnout, including guests all the way from California. Thanks to'all the ladies who outdid themselves with all the delicious casseroles, homemade pastries and watermelon fruit baskets. Thanks also to the men for furnishing the refreshments. Mother Nature interrupted our outing with a half-hour shower that had everyone running for shelter. But it didn’t rain until we had our bellies full. A good time was had by all. We had music, singing, card playing—everything but a camera. We sure could have used John Lovász or Lou Fodor. By now Pm sure everyone knows that Steve Novak and Steve Sándor were the two delegates who represented Branch 28 at the 32nd General Convention held Sept. 9 to 11 in Pittsburgh. The two, along with their wives, enjoyed the hospitality displayed by the hotel and many of their fellow delegates. All committee members did an outstanding job. I think Steve Sándor is still in shock over receiving a special plaque during the convention’s banquet. Congratulations to Irene Nemeth on becoming a great-grandmother. Her granddaughter, who lives in Germany, recently had a daughter. Both mother and child and doing fine. That now makes five generations in Irene’s family. Birthday greetings to Kay Novak, Margaret Ince, Taryn Papalia and Steve Sándor. Anniversary wishes to Steve and Kay Novak (40 years), Moses and Ethel Orbán (39), Steve and Peg Sándor (34) and Michael and Vickie Papalia (20). Belated birthday wishes to Mary Cibulas who turned 85 this August. For your insurance needs, call Branch Coordinator Gabe Nameth at (216) 792-8145 or Alan Szabó at (216) 792-7851. Branch 34 Pittsburgh, PA By Barbara Kapinus Branch 34 Coordinator Many thanks to all members who helped in preparing and serving the hot sausage for the William Penn Home Festival. Those who did not sample our delicious entree missed a real treat. We netted $609 from sausage sales, all of which benefits the Home. The Getaway Golf Weekend drawing was a huge success for the Celeste Bugielski Pancreas Fund. Between the drawing and other donations, we have raised $1,000. Andy Komar of New York won the drawing, but, since he will not be able to return to Pennsylvania this year, he graciously declined the prize. Another ticket was drawn, and the winner was Julia Genes of McKeesport, Pa. Enjoy the dinner, Julia, and may your grandson have a great time playing golf. The Getaway Golf Weekend was donated by Louis Kubus. Lou won the prize at this year’s national golf tournament and donated it to our branch as a way to raise funds for Celeste. Thanks for your kind gesture, Lou. Lou’s donation was just one of many fraternal acts he has performed for our branch and our Association. That’s why it was great to see him honored with a special plaque of appreciation during the General Convention banquet. He certainly deserves the recognition. At our November 10 meeting our branch will honor those 50- year members who have not been previously recognized. The presentation will be made immediately following our 1:00 p.m. general meeting at St. Ann’s social hall in Hazelwood. Please join us for the fun and fellowship. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to the families of William Tondora and Katharine Bendzsuk who recently passed away. May they rest in peace. Branch 129 Columbus, OH By Arpad Sibrik Branch 129 Coordinator A beautiful day greeted the 150 members and guests at our annual family picnic held recently at the lovely Jeffery Foremens Club on the banks of the Scioto River. As usual, there was a lot of delicious food, liquid refreshments and luscious pastries. A wonderful time was had by all. Congratulations to our seven 50-year members: Edward Bodish, Mike Deri, Helen laspanovich, Frank Kertesz, Steve Nagy, Elizabeth Schafhauser and Rose Warga. Each received a 50-year pin from Branch President Marge Boso. Speaking of Marge, we congratulate her on her election to the National Auditing Committee. Her fellow auditors elected her to serve as the committee’s secretary. Happy birthday to Dave and Margaret George. We wish you many more. Our first meeting of the season was held Sept. 9. We welcome Father Edward Huff, who has been appointed as the new administrator of St. Anselm’s Parish in Swissvale.
