(Photo by Louis A. Fodor) Celebration of Flag Day to highlight Fraternal Week PITTSBURGH — About 150 William Penn members and members of the Hungarian Room Committee of the University of Pittsburgh attended an April 28 dinner-dance held at the university’s Schenley Hall Assembly Room. The evening was sponsored by the Hungarian Room Committee in conjunction with the Greater Pittsburgh Area Branches of the William Penn Association. The event served the dual purpose of attracting new members to the Committee while raising funds for the William Penn Fraternal Association Scholarship Roger G. Nagy, chairman of the Hungarian Room Committee, welcomes guests to the dinner-dance. Foundation, Inc. Roger G. Nagy, chairman of the Hungarian Room Committee and vice chairman of the William Penn’s Board of Directors, welcomed all in attendance and served as the evening’s emcee. National Secretary George S. Charles Jr. led guests in the singing of the Star-Spangled Banner and the Himnusz. After dinner, everyone enjoyed the Hungarian music of the George Bátyi Continental Ensemble and a special presentation of Hungarian folk dancing by Malvene and Richard Heyz. Special thanks were extended to Mr. and Mrs. William C. Kohut and Mr. and Mrs. Elmer A. Furedy. The evening’s orchestra was furnished compliments of the Kohuts and the dinner wine was furnished compliments of the Furedys. Thanks also go to Joseph P. Arvay, chairman of the William Penn Board of Directors, for his generous contribution. Also, our thanks to Frances A. Furedy, Suzanne Deak, Karen Lynne Clarke, Diane Dinzeo and John Toth of the Home Office for their untiring assistance in making the event a success. Finally, special thanks to all who showed their support for the efforts of the Hungarian Room Committee and the Association’s scholarship fund through their attendance. For 52 weeks a year, our members and branches perform countless charitable and benevolent acts which benefit their fellow members, neighbors and communities in which they live. Most of the time these activities go unrecognized. But for one week this June, our members and fraternalists from more than 100 other societies can take a bow for all the good works they perform. From June 8 to 14 the fraternal benefit system will celebrate Fraternal Week, culminating with the 214th observance of Flag Day on June 14. During this week fraternalists are urged to make the public aware of their local and national efforts to help feed the hungry, aid students seeking higher education, fight drug and alcohol abuse, raise funds for health research and provide assistance to those in need. This will also be a time for our members to let everyone know about the patriotic spirit of all Proclamation Whereas, Fraternal Insurance Counsellors have organized under the banner of National Association of Fraternal Insurance Counsellors; and Whereas, Fraternal Insurance Counsellors are dedicated to support and maintain the principle of Legal Reserve Fraternal Life Insurance and to promote the adoption and application of high standards of ethical conduct in the profession of Fraternal Life Underwriting and the services of Fraternal Life Insurance; and Whereas, Fraternal Insurance Counsellors strive to increase the knowledge of Fraternal Field Representatives concerning Legal Reserve Fraternal Life Insurance, develop more successful sales methods and render adequate services to Fraternal Members; and Whereas, Fraternal Insurance Counsellors afford the opportunity of exchange of ideas among leading Fraternal Field Representatives; and Whereas, Fraternal Insurance Counsellors endeavor to make it possible to bring before Fraternal Field Representatives the experience and knowledge of successful life underwriters; and Whereas, Fraternal Insurance Counsellors pledge to uphold the highest of ethical standards toward their clients and to remain loyal to the Society to which their profession and service is dedicated; and Whereas, the constancy and tirelessness of the Fraternal Insurance Counsellors continue to be the lifeblood of the fraternal benefit system; Now, therefore, do I, W. Patrick Donlin, President of the National Fraternal Congress of America, proclaim May 1991 Fraternal Insurance Counsellor Month and urge all fraternalists to join with me in heralding the accomplishments of Fraternal Insurance Counsellors and to note our gratefulness with pride. W. Patrick Donlin President, NFCA JOINING HANDS TO TOUCH LIVES fraternalists. One thousand fraternalists from across the country will participate in a special Flag Day ceremony at Ellis Island. This event, sponsored by the National Fraternal Congress of America, will offer those present a chance to remember their heritage and proclaim their patriotism. Fraternalists will also participate in thousands of local events marking our flag’s birthday. And we encourage all William Penn members to join in these celebrations and help spread the word that fraternal societies provide far more than insurance for their members. We salute our FIC’s PITTSBURGH — The William Penn proudly salutes its officers, employees and sales representatives who have earned the distinguished title of Fraternal Insurance Counsellor and serve our members according to the highest professional standards.
