November 1989, William Penn Life, Page 9 Branch News Anthorry Rezeli, newly appointed coordinator for Branch 168, spends a moment with his wife Nancy and grandchildren Angela and Ryan. Branch 132 South Bend, IN Airman Patrick T. Rajkovacz, son of Branch 132 member John Rajkovacz, has been awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal for an act of courage he performed two years ago at Langley Air Force Base in Virginia. According to the citation accompanying the medal, on Dec. 10, 1987, an explosion occurred at an underground refueling pit located in an area which served as an aircraft parking ramp for the 48th Fighter Interceptor Squadron. Disregarding his own safety, Airman Rajkovacz immediately grabbed a fire extinguisher and rushed to the explosion site, despite the hazard of further explosions. He and three other individuals succeeded in dousing the fire caused by the explosion. "His efforts undoubtedly prevented subsequent explosions, spared pilots and maintenance personnel from injury or death, and saved millions of dollars in aircraft and support equipment,” the citation states. "By his prompt action and humanitarian regard for his fellow man, Airman Rajkovacz has reflected credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.” Airman Rajkovacz is also the grandnephew of Frank Balogh, president emeritus of Branch 15 Chicago. Branch 159 Phoenixville, PA By William J. Kovach Branch 159 Coordinator William Penn members from Branch 159 recently joined many of their fellow Hungarians in celebrating the 100th anniversary of the First Hungarian Reformed Sick Benefit Lodge in Phoenixville. A dinner-dance marking the occasion was held at the Hungarian-American Citizens Club in Phoenixville. During the evening’s opening ceremonies, Lodge President Menyus Bogyos read a letter of congratulations from the William Penn Association Home Office. Branch 705 Mayville, WI By John J. Lippert Branch 705 Coordinator The 1989 summer league at the Mayville Gun Club was recently concluded after 18 weeks of shooting. A perfect attendance record was achieved by all members of our team. However, Darlene Wagner was forced to drop out with four weeks left for occupational reasons. Her spot was filled by Dave Eaton. Other members of the regular team are Mike Wald, Steve Wald, Wayne Wagner and Jack Lippert. The team did not figure into the list of winners in the first half, but tied in their division during the second half. In a three team shootoff, William Penn was the winner. In a four division race for second-half champions, William Penn came in second, missing the win by a scant three targets. Mike Wald was awarded the team high gun trophy. He was very consistent all season and finished with a 22.66 out of 25 average. He was followed very closely by Wayne Wagner with a 22.11 average, and Jack Lippert with 22.05. The team elected to have their annual banquet at the Depot restaurant in Plymouth, Wise. An excellent meal and fine fellowship was enjoyed by the team and their spouses. Upon our arrival, we were hugged and kissed by all the sisters who were eager to welcome us. Branch President William Arbanas conveyed greetings and best wishes from the Association’s Home Office and the officers and members of our branch. After a tour of the convent, we were treated to breakfast. We then spent time talking with the sisters and shared many sweet memories. Following a delicious dinner, we bade farewell to the sisters. It was an emotional departure. The sisters instructed us to relay their best wishes and regards to all William Penn members and to let our members know that we are remembered in their prayers.------Mo ving ?-----If you have recently moved or are planning to move, please notify our office so that we can update our records and make sure you keep receiving the William Penn Life.
