William Penn Caribbean Cruise ’90 November 1989, William Penn Life, Page 5 Our cruise leaves from Ft. Lauderdale and travels across the Atlantic Ocean before making its swing through the western Caribbean. There, you will visit four of the region’s most beautiful and exciting ports of call. Ports offer new world to discover From the Jamaican rhythms of Ocho Rios to the ancient history of Playa del Carmen, the William Penn Caribbean Cruise ’90 offers a fun and exciting week our members and friends will remember for a lifetime. Here is what you can expect at each tropical port of call our cruise group will visit: Ocho Rios: Our westbound voyage heads first for the jewel of Jamaica, Ocho Rios. The beaches are exquisite, the music is reggae, the strawmarket is overwhelming and the people are the Caribbean’s bubbliest. There are dozens of breathtaking attractions, but the one "must-see” attraction is Dunn’s River Falls. As you walk its gentle steps, you will know what it feels like to be a child again. Grand Cayman: The largest of the three Cayman Islands, Grand Cayman has sugar-sand 7-Mile Beach and a reputation for the best snorkeling and diving in the world. That claim is based on underwater visibility of 200 feet and access to more then 300 ancient shipwrecks. Georgetown is the capital of this former British Crown Colony, many of its residents being descendants of soldiers from Cromwell’s Jamaican army. Cozumel: Here, the living is easy. Loosen up in a seaside cafe and let time and the world drift by. For some, the idea of drifting here will include fins, mask and snorkel and a visit to three-milelong Palancar Reef. But if your kind of fun consists of searching for silver, then you’ll find amazing bargains on fabulous Mexican jewelry just about everywhere you turn. Playa del Carmen: They say Playa del Carmen will lead you to ruin. In fact, the ancient and compelling ruin of Chichen Itza is within reasonably easy reach. So is the equally ancient Mayan city of Tulum and its own interesting ruins. The snorkeling at Xel Ha’s lagoon is excellent. But try to allow some time for a visit to the elegant shops of Cancún. Ft. Lauderdale: And let’s not forget about Ft. Lauderdale. Those who opt for the additional post-cruise two-night stay at the Marriott Hotel and Marina will discover why many refer to this pastel paradise as the "American Tropics.” CostaRiviera is a floating resort Many have referred to the ss CostaRiviera, the ship chosen for this year’s William Penn Caribbean Cruise, as a floating resort. As your days aboard drift by, the CostaRiviera will display her many attributes, one at a time. First, your cabin. Although you’ll be too busy having fun to spend much time here, your cabin — a painted canvas of middle blues and greens — will provide you with a comfortable place for restful nights. During your first day at sea, you may want to take a stroll around the ship to uncover for yourself its pleasant surprizes. On the Riviera Deck, you will find yourself in the middle of a piazzetta, an Italian town square. Street lamps and park benches accent the little shipboard shops filled with European designer clothing, exquisite jewelry and elegant perfumes. You can settle into a little bistro call La Tavernetta, sip some wine and watch the "street scene” float by. Up on the Sports and Lido decks you will find numerous way to keep yourself in your best physical shape for the week-long voyage. The fitness center offers a good variety of exercise equipment and the ship also features an optional SpaCosta program which includes a rounded exercise program conducted under the guidance of trained personnel. You can play a game of basketball, jog along the teak running track or simply contemplate the sea from one of three Jacuzzis, the swimming pool or a comfortable lounge. The CostaRiviera’s public rooms are impressive. La Scala is a terraced showroom where you can witness a week’s worth of wonderful entertainment. The Grand Prix Lounge is a focal point for catching up with new friends. The Monte Carlo Casino, rich in leather and felt, has a pulse of its own. And when you’re lucky, you can catch the rhythm. Dining aboard the CostaRiviera is a culinary adventure. Each wonderful meal is prepared by expert chefs and served with the warm grace of Italian hospitality. The menu includes soups and salads of every description, homemade pastas, fresh baked breads and pastries, and the finest fish, beef and fowl. All of these are served in the newly refurbished Portofino Restaurant. Last, but not least, you will discover that the heart of the CostaRiviera is its crew. The people who will serve you are proud of their tradition of impeccable service and work hard to make your cruise as pleasurable as possible.
