Branch 132 South Bend, IN We wish to thank everyone who wo ked and helped to make our National William Penn Associ­ation Bowling Tournament and Scholarship Banquet successful. On July 2 and 3, the William Penn Club will participate in the Ethnic Festival held on the South Bend River Bend Plaza. Our famous Hungarian food will be served. We would appreciate volunteers to help us in the promotion of this project. Sunday, July 17, the Club will sponsor a baseball trip to Chicago for a game between the Cubs and the Los Angeles Dodgers. The bus will leave about 9:30 a.m. During the months of June and July, the Club opening hours are from 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and on Saturdays from 1:00 p.m. Steve Pécsi is the interim housemanager. Steve will be happy to see you, perhaps bowl a game or two or just socialize. Our bowling alleys are in excellent condition. Branch 189 Alliance, OH By Marie Duruttya Branch 189 Reporter The social dinner held at Alliance Branch 189 was a great success with 100 people enjoying the delicious dinner, cooked by Lola Lombardi with assistance from Laura Jeffries and Michaeli Bow­ers. Special thanks go to Alice Amos and Gerry Taylor for their help in the dining room. Our trip to South Bend, Ind., was greatly enjoyed by us who attended from Branch 189 and, I’m sure, by everyone who attend­ed the bowling tournament. Our host Branch 132 of South Bend is to be complimented, as are the women who cooked the fabulous Hungarian dinner. The dancers from Detroit were a joy to watch. The costumes, the dancing and the enthusiasm shown by the dancers as they performed will remain with us for a long time. A speedy recovery to National Director and Branch 189 Coord­inator Zoltán Cibulas who is recovering from a recent stroke. Congratulations to all 1988 seniors graduating from high schools and colleges. May the Lord God bless you all with much success, luck and happiness in the future. Branch 296 Springdale, PA By Pat Balia Branch 296 Reporter William Penn Branch 296 would like to thank Branch 132, South Bend, Ind., for their hospitality at the 45th Annual National Bowling Tournament over the Memorial weekend. The bowlers also would like to thank the bus driver from Harrisburg. Our branch’s annual bacon roast was a huge success, not only with the weather but with a surprise guest of honor. Niki Pecsvarady, the four-year-old Hungarian girl who underwent two liver transplants earlier this year, was there with her father. Our Branch Treasurer James Mozga and his daughter Charlotte, a Home Office employee, were responsible for the presence of these two special people, along with Home Office employee Maria Bistey, who drove the Pecsvarady family to Springdale. Branch President Ronald Balia thanks all those at the bacon roast who donated money to cover Niki’s medical expenses. Branch 18 Detroit honored their members of the Associa­tion’s Official Family with a dinner-dance, June 19, 1988. President Balia and I would like to thank Julia and Steve Danko, Helen and John Molnár, and Darlene and Steve Szatmári for a most enjoyable visit and for their generous hospitality. Branch 296 will have its annual Hungarian picnic July 24, 1988, at Assumption Church Picnic Grounds, Route 66, Leechburg, Pa. We are planning more acti­vities this year with games for children, food, music, and raffles. Everyone is welcome to attend. Lafferty in honor of the 35th anniversary of his ordination into the priesthood. celebrated his 35th year as a priest on May 22. Msgr. Lafferty was ordained a priest on May 6, 1953. Branch 800 gave him a gift in honor of his 35 years as a priest. Branch 800 discussed its annual corn boil and weiner roast which will be held Wednesday, Aug. 17 at 6:00 p.m. at Highland Park, Altoona, Pa. We also discussed a trip to Racetown Lake, Huntingdon County. We decided to go to the Racetown Resort and take a dinner cruise on board the Proud Mary. The meeting closed at 9:00 p.m. with a light lunch after the meeting. Branch 8075 Wilkes-Barre, PA The members of Branch 8075 met May 15 at the home of Charles Dress and discussed the recently completed bowling season. All the members made a good showing and are looking forward to the beginning of the next season. Branch 8121 St. Marys, PA A picnic for members of Branch 8121 and their guests will be held on Sunday, July 24, at St. Marys Grade School. The plans for the picnic were finalized at a branch meeting held June 1 at the school. During the meeting, plans for next year’s communion Mass and breakfast were confirmed, and members signed birthday cards for residents at the William Penn Home and get well cards for sick members. The meeting closed with a pray­er, followed by a lunch and social. Branch 8286 Philadelphia, PA By John J. Provasnik, Jr. Branch 8286 Coordinator Eight new members were initiated into Branch 8286 May 15 in a ceremony held immediately after the 10:30 a.m. Mass at the Hung­arian Apostolate Center Chapel in Philadelphia. The initiation was held at the chapel in order to impress upon the congregation the active invol­vement of the William Penn branch with the parish. Father George S. Spaits, branch spiritual advisor, celebrated the Mass and conducted the initiation ceremony. The new members are: Mrs. John Szanto, wife of our branch’s president; Dr. Levente Bodak, his wife Judith and their son Gabor; and Tamas and Edit Bailer and their daughters Orsi and Fru. Dr. Bodak is a board certified specialist in oral medicine, diag­nosis and treatment in both the United States and Hungary. He is an assistant professor of Stoma­tology at the University of Penn­sylvania School of Dental Medi­cine and author of a textbook on oral medicine. Tamas Bailer is a commercial photographer and the official photographer of all our branch functions. He and his family re­cently moved to the United States from Hungary. After the Mass and initiation, all the new members attended the branch meeting and were warmly received. Coffee and cakes were served to all before the meeting. Branch 8321 Windber, PA The members of Branch 8321 met May 29 at St. Anthony’s Church to discuss plans for the church’s annual festival bazaar to he held July 29 to 31. Members were also reminded to check the names of benefici­aries on their insurance policies and to update them, if necessary. Keeping the names of benefici­aries updated will ensure that your benefits will be paid accord­ing to your wishes. Branch 8340 Dundalk, MD The members of Branch 8340 met May 1 at St. Rita’s cafeteria for their regular business meeting. Those present began preparations for the 100 Club party that was to be held in June.
