April 1988, William Penn Life, Page 7 Branch News Branch 590 Cape Coral, FL The members of Branch 590 were quite happy to be able to make recent contributions to two of the Association’s most worthwhile programs. Our branch donated $100 to the William Penn Fraternal Association Scholarship Foundation and $50 to the William Penn Home. We encourage every William Penn branch to join us in supporting these fraternal programs. Branch 8020 McKees Rocks, PA By William J. Arbanas Branch 8020 President The February monthly meeting of Branch 8020 was held at the River Road Inn in Avalon, Pa. A short meeting was followed by the swearing in of the new officers by National Secretary E.E. Vargo. Mr. Vargo along with National Vice President Zoltán Emri, spoke highly of Branch 8020. Then everybody present sat down to a good dinner hosted by Branch 8020. Branch President William Arbanas spoke about a plaque that Branch 8020 will purchase, along with Branch 8243 Wellsburg, W. Va., as an everlasting tribute to all of the sisters who staffed and faithfully served our home for the aging. The contributions made by the sisters to our Home are too numerous to count. The plaque was to be placed in the chapel sometime in February. Branch 8020 also was to have the mayor of McKees Rocks proclaim March as "Mental Retardation Month.” All of us were deeply saddened to hear about the passing of our long time member Mr. John Radovan. Brother John held many important offices in the former Catholic Knights of St. George. He was well known as a salesman and promoter of our branch. We were honored to have Mrs. Vargo and Mrs. Emri join their husbands at the dinner and what is an affair without Dominic La Verde giving his sales talk on our Society? Branch 8114 Clarion, PA Branch 8114 held its regular meeting Feb. 16 at which it announced final plans for the annual Men’s Breakfast to be held March 27. Branch President Robert Walter asked the men to make a good showing at the breakfast. The Ladies’ Breakfast will be held on May 1. The chairman and committee for this event will be appointed soon. All ladies are asked to help. Branch 8155 Steelton, PA The members of Branch 8155 have begun another project at St. John the Evangelist School, this time removing old moulding and installing new mouldings in the school’s corridor. Several members are also repairing the electric control panel for the church bells. Branch 8155 made a $150 donation to the church’s Easter collection and will participate in the annual Diocesan Lenten appeal. Branch 8164 Steubenville, OH Branch 8164 held its regular monthly meeting March 13 at St. Anthony’s Rectory recreation hall. At the meeting, the members agreed to donate $5 to the William Penn’s New Jersey branches as a booster for their annual dinner-dance. The members also agreed to present a commendation to Louis Charles Fodor, son of National Auditor Louis A. Fodor, on his promotion to naval aviation squadron commander. Mr. Fodor spoke to us about a sword that was donated to the William Penn Home Museum, a Hungarian cultural exchange program and William Penn insurance plans. Msgr. Paul Richter, our branch spiritual advisor, spoke about his recent two-week vacation trip. Mr. Fodor also announced that the annual Family Festival at the William Penn Home will be held on the first Sunday in August. He also read a letter explaining why some of the nuns who formerly served the residents at the Home were recalled by their Order. Everyone was pleased with the explanation. Branch 8286 Philadelphia, PA At their March meeting, the members of Branch 8286 discussed the upcoming meeting of all ethnic groups to be held March 25. The branch also presented a $ 10 Mass stipend to Father Spaits of St. Vincent’s Church for a memorial Mass for all the deceased freedom fighters of the 1848 Hungarian Revolution. Branch 8340 Dundalk, MD The members of Branch 8340 gathered March 6 at St. Rita’s School cafeteria for their regular monthly business meeting. The meeting was followed by a luncheon and social hour.
