No English? Nyem, nein, non. The William Penn is planning to host such weekends this summer during which participants who speak a second language would enjoy many fun activities while conversing informally with other like-speaking individuals. These "language intensive” weekends would give persons who do not have the opportunity to speak Hungarian, German or French a chance to converse with others in their second language for an entire weekend. The idea for the language intensive weekends developed from a growing interest expressed by our members. It is the direct result of the various "networking” meetings which are being held in areas of the country where our branches are located. The language intensive weekends will be held at the Association’s 530-acre Mount St. George facility in Wellsburg, W.Va. They would include no formal language study, unless participants request it. Rather, conversation in the chosen language would take place while participating in sports, swimming, outdoor cooking, folk art programs and sing-a-longs. A high degree of conversation skill in the selected language is not necessary to join in these fun-filled weekends. Materials in the selected language for the weekend, such as YOUNGSTOWN, OH — A tape of Christian meditations and songs in the Hungarian language designed for the elderly and shutins has been produced in cooperation with William Penn Branch 28, Youngstown. The tape, entitled O Jézus Emlékezni Rad or "Remember Jesus,” was compiled by the Revs. Angelus Ligeti and Barnabas Kiss. The tape was co-sponsored by the Catholic Hungarian Sunday weekly newspaper. Branch 28 provided the blank tapes used to mass produce the tape. The tape contains meditations, scripture readings, the Lord’s Prayer, the Prayer of St. Francis and songs of Hungarian origin dating back to the 14th century. It also contains poetry by Sándor Remenyik, the famous Reformed poet from Transylvania, and other poets. The tapes will be sold at cost and distributed to the elderly and those who are confined or isolated from Hungarian churches and centers. William Penn members and branches interested in buying copies of O Jézus Emlékezni Rad for distribution to the sick or elderly can purchase individual tapes for $5.00 each or a package of 10 tapes for $40.00. Send your requests along with a check or money order payable to William Penn Association to: Elizabeth Szabó, c/o Hungarian Tape #28, 709 Brighton Road, Pittsburgh, Pa. 15233. We hope that many of our members and branches will take advantage of this opportunity to share the Christian message in Hungarian with individuals who are no longer able to attend worship services in Hungarian.
