February 19&7, William Penn Life, Page 11 Branch News Ladies auxiliary marks 25 th anniversary By Barbara House Branch 18 Ladies Auxiliary Secretary DETROIT —On Sept. 27,1986, the Ladies Auxiliary of Branch 18, Detroit, celebrated its 25th Anniversary with a dinner held at the William Penn Social Hall in Lincoln Park, Mich. The head table was adorned with white tablecloths and a beau­tiful centerpiece donated by the Club. A total of 37 people were present and a delicious dinner was served by Steve Szatmári and his helpers. Punch was also donat­ed by Steve. Our special thanks to him. For dessert we had a 25th Anniversary törte cake made by Eleanor Kender. Our surprise guest was Frank M. Sail, mayor of Lincoln Park. He presented a beautiful proclam­ation to the auxiliary recognizing its donation toward the purchase of the Social Club building on Southfield Road. The auxiliary raised the funds through its mem­bers’ hard work and sales of its own editted cookbook. Branch 18 Vice President Andy Toth and his wife Emma extended congratulations on behalf of the branch and club to the auxiliary on its 25th Anniversary. Branch President Stephen Danko and his wife Julia were vacationing in Hungary and were unable to attend. Past President Elvira Kubovics and her husband Les sent their congratulations from northern Michigan. Past President Marga­ret Vespremi, who was unable to attend due to ill health, also sent best wishes. We are truly thank­ful to these two ladies for the good leadership and to all the officers and members that helped this auxiliary continue in fellow­ship for 25 years. Charter members attending were Martha Balosé, Esther Nagy and Cecilia Vespremi. Other sur­viving charter members who did not attend but sent best wishes included Barbara Piczker, Rose Tephenhart, Katalin Demeter, Margaret Vespremi, Elvira Kubo­vics, Helen Madarasz, Isabelle Fabian and Irene Mazag. We also remember our dear members that are deceased. Their memory shall always be in our hearts. At our December meeting the auxiliary officers were re-elected by acclamation. Those re-elected were Eleanor Kender, president; Anna Leny, vice president; Barb­ara House, secretary; Margaret New, treasurer; and Mary Gebnar and Mary Boka, auditors. Con­gratulations to each one. Our annual Mother’s Day Card Party for 1987 will be held at 7:00p.m. April27 at the William Penn Social Hall. Donation for admission will be $3.00. Tickets can be obtained from members or by calling Darlene Szatmári at the Social Club at (313) 381- 9881. Fun, prizes and good des­serts will be served. Come join us in fellowship. By Michaelene Mirkovich Branch 16 Reporter PERTH AMBOY, NJ - On Dec. 7,1986, Branch 16, Perth Amboy, held its annual family Christmas party, which was enjoyed by all the "old and young” youngsters. After a delicious lunch, we were entertained by Myra Wenge­­boren with her puppets and sing­ing. Steve Mészáros and George Mirkovich also helped with the singing of some Christmas carols. But the highlight of the after­noon was the arrival of Santa Claus, played by Ted Sabo, with By Steve Szemes Branch 76 Coordinator PHILADELPHIA — Branch 76, Philadelphia, held its election of branch officers for 1987 at a meeting Dec. 12, 1986, at the Philadelphia Hungarian Club. Officers elected were John Mikula, president; John Gubicza, vice president; Elsie Szemes, treas­urer; Clara Fenessy, secretary; and Helen Molnár and John Maliga, auditors. Joe Karoly, our former presi­dent, and his wife Annabel, an auditor, declined to accept office due to health reasons. Our mem­bers wish to thank them for their presents and an ear for all the children. We especially want to thank Mr. and Mrs. Michael Hrabar, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Mészáros, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hrabar, Annette Hrabar and George Mir­kovich for all their help in making this day special for the children. Before the party the following were elected as officers for the coming year: Michael Hrabar, president; Mary Mészáros, vice president; Steve Mészáros, secre­tary-treasurer; Annette Hrabar and Anne Hrabar, auditors; and Michaelene Mirkovich, reporter. many years of dedicated service. We will miss you and please keep in touch. Following the meeting we en­joyed a joint Christmas celebra­tion with the Club members. A delicious buffet, pastries and re­freshments were served, followed by a joyous Christmas carol sing­­along in the true holiday spirit. We would like to see a good turnout of our members at our meetings and welcome their sug­gestions to create interest in or­ganizing various functions. By Harold Robinson Branch 800 Reporter ALTOONA, PA — Blair County Branch 800 of the William Penn Association held its annual mem­orial Mass for deceased members on Thanksgiving Day 1986 at St. Mary’s Church in Hollidaysburg. About 30 members attended. On Dec. 12, the branch held its annual Christmas party at Our Lady of Lourds Church Hall in Altoona. The committee for the Christmas party included Jim Stoner (chairman), Joe Mask, Harold Robinson, Leo Long, Joe Polumbo and Robert Jones. The Christmas party was a great success with 58 adults and 30 children in attendance. Joe Stoner did a good job getting a lot of gifts for the children and door prizes. Frank Thompson dressed up By Steve Petruska Branch 8 Treasurer JOHNSTOWN, PA — Branch 8, located in Johnstown fór the past 89 years, held its election of branch officers for 1987 on Dec. 14, 1986, at the social hall of the Johnstown-Windber Hungarian Reform Church. Re-elected by acclamation were Vera Petruska, president; Elaine Petruska, secretary; Steve Petru­ska, treasurer; and Elizabeth Maurer and Ida Sipos, auditors. Following the installation of officers, the branch held its annual children’s Christmas party with Santa arriving with his merry and cheery "Ho-Ho-Ho!” Later, Santa sat by our decorat­ed Christmas tree, and the child­ren whispered to Santa what they wanted for Christmas. Santa and Branch Treasurer Steve Petruska then handed out the children’s yuletide money gift, carol books and calendars to the parents. While all the children and their in a Santa Claus suit and gave the gifts to the children. There was also an exchange of gifts between adults. Frank also gave out the door prizes. Executive Vice President John parents were busy enjoying the food and refreshments and con­versing with one another, Santa suddenly disappeared. Santa was really enjoyed by all. The officers of Branch 8 wish to thank the Board of Directors for its generous allocation toward the children’s Christmas party. Also, thanks to the Home Office staff for getting the invitations, carol books and calendars here on time. We of Branch 8 try to show F. Kenawell attended the party and handed out gifts. We were entertained by a sing­ing quartet called the Allegheny Airs. We all then sang Christmas carols. This was a great party. these lovely children and their parents that the William Penn Association really believes in their future. The officers and members of Branch 8 wish to all a prosperous Happy New Year. Branch 8 meetings are held the second Sunday of each month at the social hall of the Johnstown- Windber Hungarian Reform Church, corner of Ninth Avenue and Chestnut Street in the Cam­bria City section of Johnstown.
