We of Branch 189 again say, “Thank you!’’ November 13, 1985 was a very special day for Mr. Joseph Dudás, because that was the date Mr. Dudás became 90 years old. According to reports, Mr. Dudás is the oldest Hungarian man living in Alliance, Ohio. Mr. Dudás was born in Maras Ugra, Hungary. His parents were farmers. As a young lad he helped his parents on the farm. He left Maras Ugra when he was 17 years old and came to the United States. He came to Alliance, Ohio, but finding work was not easy, he headed out West. He worked in a hotel but he couldn’t make much money so he headed back to Sharon, Pa. That’s where he met his wife, Kathy (Paul). Mr. Dudás boarded across the street from where Kathy lived. He saw this pretty young Hungarian girl and thought, “Ah, she’s the one for me!” They fell in love and were married in 1928. They came to Alliance, Ohio, after the wedding, for they heard there were people living in Alliance from Maras Ugra. Such families as the Trumpeters, Kocis, and Magyaros, made their home and raised their families. The Dudás’ have two children, Charlotte and John. There are five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Their daughter, Charlotte, and her husband, Charles (Alexander), had a birthday party for Mr. Dudás. Many friends from Sharon, Pa., Canton and Alliance were in attendance. Mr. Dudás is Hungarian but he very much enjoyed his western cowboy hat he received for his birthday!!!! For a man 90 years old, Mr. Dudás is very active. He enjoys gardening, yard work and, oh yes, pulling his little red wagon, going out to the field and hauling field dirt to fill in patches in his garden!! His gardening produces an abundance of vegetables that keeps his wife Kathy busy canning!! We sincerely wish Mr. Dudás many more happy birthdays!!!!! Our thank you to Lola Longobardi, our waitress at the William Penn Club for the beautiful Christmas decorations she put up to make our club so beautiful. Our Branch coordinator, Zoltán Cibulas, will be glad to fill your insurance needs. Contact him by calling (216) 823-2028.
