By Anne Marie Kertész Branch 249 Juvenile members of Branch 249 in Dayton were guests at the annual Christmas party and attend­ance was reported as the best in recent years. Entertainment was pro­vided by Kurt McGlocklin with his puppets and marionettes. Near the end of the perform­ance, while everyone was singing “Jingle Bells,” Santa Claus (Frank Hoffer) made a grand entrance, much to the delight of all those in attendance. Director Albert G. Kertesz extended a welcome and served as master of ceremonies. He also assisted Santa in presenting gifts to the young guests. Special recognition was given to members of our Branch bowling league who were also in attendance, ac­companied by their children and, or grandchildren who are, of course, future members of the Association. Snacks served during the afternoon included home made kolbász prepared by John Motko, branch presi­dent. Other refreshments in­cluded sloppy joe sandwiches prepared by Alberta Hoffer, potato chips, pretzels and an assortment of cookies prepared by the ladies. Refreshments for adults were arranged by Steve Hor­vath. The branch officers extended their thanks to all those who helped make the party the overwhelming suc­cess it was. A special thank you was given to Julia Asztalos for her kindness to the children. The annual Branch meeting was held the follow­ing day at St. Stephen’s Hall. Re-elected by acclamation were John Motko, president; Steve Horvath, vice-president; Anne Marie Kertesz, secretary/treasurer; and Frank Hoffer and Michael Mayerchak, auditors. Vice-President Horvath has completed preliminary plans for participation in the 1985 national tournament and several teams will compete. A chartered bus has been ar­ranged and a stand-by list will be maintained in event of last minute cancellations. Branch members are reminded that Penn Life will now be published every two months. Therefore it is impor­tant that all Branch members forward items of interest to your reporter for inclusion in future issues. DAYTON BRANCH — A record attendance marked the annual Christmas party of Dayton Branch 249. Accompanying photos show Santa distributing gifts, being given a helping hand by Director Kertesz, children enjoying the puppet show and, of course, some of the guests at the magnificent buffet table. BRANCH 150 — A partial group of the scores who participated in the Uniontown Branch’s annual By Louis Jesso Branch 150 UNIONTOWN, PA — Louis C. Nagy Sr. was elected president during the annual election meeting of Branch 150. Other officers will in­clude Joseph Dalnoky, vice­­president; Dave Jesso, secretary; Louis Jesso, treasurer; William Dunham and Julius Jesso, auditors. During that meeting plans for various activities for 1985 were discussed and ap­proved. These will include an Easter egg hunt, a Halloween party and the annual Christmas party for children. Branch 18, Detroit Michigan The members of Branch 18 at a meeting held December 3, 1984, chose to elect the following officers to represent them for the year 1985. President: Stephen Danko; Vice Presidents: Andy Toth and S.P. Danko; Secretary: Mathilda Jagadics; Treasurer: Edward Beres; Controller: James Burinda; Auditors: Betty Kocsis, Frank Kender, James Lochinger, Joe Soter and Frank Tima. Congratula­tions to the newly elected officers Ed Beres and Frank Kender and to the in­cumbents that were re­elected. A busy year lies ahead for all. The Grape Festival held in October, 1984 was a great success with a capacity crowd enjoying the umpiring of our past National Presi­dent, Julius Macker and the policing of our youth group of those caught trying to steal the grapes that were dis­played on hangers of wire above the dance floor. A real nice time was had by all and the music provided by Joe Balint and his orchestra was responsible for a crowded dance floor all night long. The Childrens Christmas Party, held December 1, 1984 was attended by 65 Christmas party is shown at the Pal’s Club in Masontown where the event was held. The children and other guests sang Christmas carols, played games and en­joyed refreshments. The event was topped off with the appearance of Santa Claus and Frosty the Snowman. They talked with each of our small guests, then presented them with treats. Branch Manager Louis Jesso expressed the ap­preciation of the Branch to the Pal’s Club for its out­standing accommodations for the party. children, plus about that many adults, was a great success. Santa Claus made his appearance as scheduled and as expected had a beautiful gift for each child. In addition, each child re­ceived treats of potato chips, pop, hot dogs with chili and a door prize. All officers and their wives participated in making this a great success. Thanks to all who gave of their time. The card party sponsored by the dance group of Branch 18 was well attended, with a full house of con­testants vieing for the beautiful prize given to all winners, plus door prizes. Again, all enjoyed a great time and are looking forward to the next time. The month of December was a hectic month for our Social Club, highlighted with more than 20 private parties was concluded with our an­nual New Year’s Eve Party. The party was well attended by over 100 people that en­joyed a dinner of pork chops and breaded veal and a breakfast of meatballs and mashed potatoes. The music was provided by the Coach­men’s orchestra with all en­joying the music by dancing up a storm calling for more. Continued from page 24 column 3 Branch 18, Ladies Auxiliary The Ladies Auxiliary held their election of officers at their December, 1984 meeting. Our new officers for 1985 are: President, Eleanor Kender; Vice President, Anne Leny; Secretary, Barbara House; Treasurer, Margaret New; Auditors, Mary Boka and Mary Gebnar. Congratu­lations to each of our newly elected officers. On behalf of the Ladies Auxiliary we wish to thank Louise Vespremi for being our devoted Secretary for 4 years and Vice-President for 2 years each job very well done. We would like to con­gratulate her on her newly elected job as Director of the Hungarian Reformed Federa­tion. We wish her luck and happiness in her new posi­tion. May God’s blessings be with you Louise. Our deepest sympathy to the family of Anna Somergary who passed away August 20, 1984 at age 82. She was an Honorary member of our Aux­iliary. Rest in peace dear member. A welcome back to our members vacationing this fall. In September — President Kender, Treasurer Margaret New and Sophie Lock from the tour of New England States. In October Emma Collins and Marge Penzes and husbands on their trip to Florida. Irene Gall from her lovely trip to the Holy Land and Anne Leny, Elvira Kubovics and husband from Northern Michigan. In December Anna Toth and her husband also Betty Kocsis from their trip to Florida. October 13th our ladies worked at the Veterans Hospital in Allen Park. The Veterans enjoyed playing bingo and our contributions were greatly appreciated. Also in October our trip to Jack Miners Bird Sanctuary turned out wonderful. We had a perfect sunny day for our bus ride, an excellent luncheon near the lake and the flock of birds were breathtaking. The way they flew in unison was truly a sight to behold. A good time was had by all including the singing voices on the bus led by our Secretary, Louise Vespremi. Hospitalized were Mary Jozsa's husband Steve and Esther Nagy’s husband Pete, also Barbara House broke her foot. A speedy recovery to each one and hope they are improving by this writing.
