(Continued from Page 5) services at the lowest possible rates, even at a time when the cost of living continues spiraling. The William Penn Fraternal Association for many years has been an advocate of progressive participation in the space-age technology. We, like many others in the insurance industry are doing everything possible to render to our members the best product and service possible at the lowest possible rates consistent with the safety and protection of its members. Twentyfive years ago we departed from a manual operation to a punch-card system with sophisticated tabulating equipment of that era. Three years ago we converted to a secondgeneration computer operation. Today with the advent of the thirdgeneration computers, the National Officers and Directors of the Association sparing no cost, are updating its operations with the most modern methods insurance organizations can employ. We have been encouraged by the acceptance the vast majority of our members have given our computer-age operations. It is foreseeable that a direct result of this modern computer operation will mean additional benefits for our members. As the “bugs'' of the second-generation computer operation are eliminated and with the improved programming of the new system's logic, a smoother operation will result which will eventually mean savings to all members. The Board of Directors will study these possibilities at its September meeting. We like to think that each member appreciates the progressive course his organization is pursuing in his behalf. We want him to have the best at a price he can afford. We have learned that we can, through intelligence and understanding, approach his problems and succeed in his behalf with the utilization of modern-day computer technology. EDITORIAL NOTE: The above article appeared in the August-September 1969 issue of the William Penn Life. It was written by John Sabo, National Controller, now the National President of our William Penn Association. i This old true maxim — for me, at any rate — deserves to be repeated: Please grant me the serenity to accept things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
