Director Michael Hegedűs Retires After more than 35 years of serv­ice to the Association in various branch levels and national level capacities, Mr. Michael Hegedűs retired as a member of the Board of Directors of the William Penn Association. Mr. Hegedűs' first service to the Association was that of printing the Rákóczi Szemle, prior to Rákóczi merging with Verhovay to become the William Penn Association in 1955. Director Hegedűs was active in Branch 19 Rákóczi in New Bruns­wick, New Jersey and Verhovay Branch 52. He was particularly ac­tive in the field of enrolling new members for the Association, some­thing he is doing even today. Mr. Hegedűs was born in Nagy­­kapos, Hungary and attended elementary and secondary schools (Polgári Iskola) in Hungary. He is married to the former Barbara Gyur­­kovics, has 2 sons, John and Michael, two grandchildren, all William Penn Members. Mr. Hegedűs was owner and Presi­dent of Parker Offset Pringing Com­pany until his retirement from business. occasion of his retirement and paid tribute to him for his many contribu­tions for advancing the cause of Hungarian fraternalism. Mr. Hegedűs, on behalf of himself and Mrs. Hegedűs, expressed ap­preciation for having been afforded the opportunity to serve our large fraternal family. Mr. Hegedűs becomes the first member to serve on the Advisory Board established by the 1979 General Convention. We wish Mr. Hegedűs happiness in his retirement. In addition to his dedicated work at the branch level, he has been ac­tive on the national field. In recogni­tion of his many sided services to the William Penn cause, the 1959 con­vention elected him as a member of the National Auditing Committee. In 1963, he was elected to the Board of Directors and in each successive quadrennial convention, was re­elected to that honored office. He also served on the Executive Com­mittee for a 4 year term. As with all good fraternalists, Brother Hegedűs is active in the Bayard Street Presbyterian Church, New Brunswick and on occasion serves as lay preacher. He has been an active officer and member of the Hungarian American Athletic Club (HAAC) for 50 years. Mr. Hegedűs is also a member of the Masonic Union Lodge No. 19, Elks Club, American-Hungarian Studies Foundation and Middlesex County Equal Opportunity Corp. On Tuesday, March 1 5, 1 983, the Board of Directors and Officers held a Retirement Dinner for Mr. Hegedűs. Mr. Elmer Charles, Na­tional President, and retired National Secretary Stelkovics spoke on the A.S.J. TOM FORESTER Candidate for Re-Election Commissioner Tom Forester is seeking re-election to a fifth term as commissioner of Allegheny County. A native of North Side, Pittsburgh, Pa., Mr. Forester was first elected commissioner in 1967. He was re­elected in 1971, 1975 and 1979. In 1980, he was elected chairman of the Board of Commissioners. During his tenure as commis­sioner, Mr. Forester has helped ex­pand the Community College to serve more than 100,000 students, improved care for 10,000 depen­dent and neglected children, 40,000 mentally ill and retarded, and thousands of disabled, ill and elderly citizens. He has spearheaded programs to bring new industry and jobs to Allegheny County, aid unemployed workers facing mortgage fore­closures on their homes, retrain 5,000 displaced employees, and to stem the tide of foreign steel im­ports. Commissioner Forester has also campaigned against increases in public utility rates, bigger trucks on our highways and the imposition of high federal taxes on river freight traffic. Prior to becoming commissioner, Mr. Forester served five terms as a member of the General Assembly (1958-1968), during which he was principal sponsor of many conserva­tion measures including the 1965 Clean Streams Act and the 1966 Mine Subsidence Act. He also spon­sored legislation which created the County Community College and made the University of Pittsburgh a state-related university. Since 1 967, Commissioner Forester has collected more than $1 million for Children's Hospital. While a member of the Penn­­slyvania General Assembly and as a Commissioner, he was always ready and available to assist the William Penn and every fraternal movement and project. He faithfully attended our banquets and conventions. He is a dynamic personality who has received numerous awards for his outstanding services in government, charitable and fraternal activities. He is a William Penn member who deserves and is worthy of every member's vote on election day. Also ask your friends to support him. HOME OFFICE NEWS Geroge (Pete) Charles, Home Office Employee, and his wife, Dianne, became the proud parents of their first child, a son. Steven Frederic Charles arrived on April 2nd at St. Clair Memorial Hospital in Mt. Lebanon, Pa., weighing in at 7 lbs. 6 oz. Best wishes to the proud parents. 5
