Minutes of The Special Convention . . . Minutes of the Special Convention of the William Penn Association held on Saturday, November 27, 1982 in the Grand Ballroom of the William Penn Hotel, Pittsburgh, PA. 1) The Special Convention of the William Penn Association was called to order at 9:20 A.M. by Mr. Elmer Charles, National President and Chairman of the Board. 2) The invocation was offered by Reverend Sándor Kovach, Pastor of the Homestead Hungarian Reformed Church. 3) The assembly pledged alle­giance to the flag of the United States of America. George "Pete” Charles led the assembly in the sing­ing of our National Anthem. 4) The Chairman of the conven­tion then introduced all the National Officers, Board of Directors, Auditing Committee Members, General Counsel Gay B. Banes and former President, Mr. Julius Macker. 5) National Secretary/Treasurer, Gus G. Nagy, Chairman of the Credentials Committee, reported that there are 110 voting delegates — 56 votes constitute a majority and 74 votes constitute a %rd ma­jority. 6) Secretary of the Convention, Frank J. Radvany, calls the Roll of Delegates. There were 2 delegates absent. There being a quorum present, the Chairman officially called the con­vention to order. 7) Vice President, Louis L. Varga proceeded to introduce all visitors and guests to this convention. 8) President Charles introduced former President, Mr. Julius Macker. 9) Mr. Macker stated we are gathered at this Special Convention to make a decision on the proposed consolidation of the two greatest Hungarian societies in the world. The two societies have been nego­tiating for the past two years for this consolidation. It is imperative for the Hungarians to keep together in order to keep the Hungarian culture alive. The joining of these two societies will help cultivate and perpetuate the Hun­garian language and culture.
