Girls from Rosemary Popovich Dance School doing the Hungarian Csardas. children’s Christmas parties. She is the instructor of all the dances put on by the children, some of who are professionals and semi-professionals. There were girls who were ballerinas, some tapped, then there were baton twirlers, Polynesians, roller dancers, mideastern dancers and the greatest surprise was the Hungarian csárdás!! Thank you to a very dear lady, Mrs. Marie Korledki, who gave assistance to Rosemary Popovich in teaching the young ladies the csárdás! With the conclusion of such an enjoyable program, the games were played by the children with the assistance of Mrs. Claus, Jennie Carman, Lori McClung, Shelley Summers, Andrea Duruttya and Dawn Bradt. A special door award was won by Jay Schafer. Oh, what a happy little boy he was! The children were all happy playing the games, for there were no losers, they all won a prize. would hear them! With a great loud “Ho, Ho, Ho,” Santa appeared! “My”, said Santa, “as I was riding in my sleigh in the sky I heard loud voices singing.” “I was sure it was the children singing in the William Penn Club. So I told Rudolph to make a sharp turn to the left because my children in the William Penn Club are waiting for me. So here I am children, come tell me what you would like for Christmas!” The Board of Directors leading the children in singing Christmas carols. Dear Santa had 147 children (one at a time) sit on his jolly knee, some crying, some laughing, and some oh, so very serious! Santa hugged them all telling he will do his best to see they have a very Merry Christmas. To us, here at Alliance Branch 189, dear Santa is a very special Santa (Gary Heestand) who is so jolly and so kind in giving of his services every year. The Management and Board of Directors give you their most hearty “thank you Gary” and may God bless you for all the joy you bring to the children. Each child was given a bag of goodies by Santa. Trustee Wilbur Taylor, Ann Barany, Linda Bryant and Marie Duruttya served refreshments to all children present. The games being all finished, the children started to sing Jingle Bells. The longer they sang the louder they sang. They wanted to make sure Santa Lori McClung and Penny Duruttya helping the little ones at games. It’s such a joy to see how the children enjoy our Christmas parties! Makes one remember how we enjoyed those parties when we were children! My how time does fly! Thank you to the Home Office for their generous contribution to our party. We realize how many Branches they contribute to and indeed it is quite a contribution on their part. Our annual Children and Adult Christmas Party was held on Sunday, December 19, in the brightly decorated social hall of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church on Beacon Street. Guests began to arrive at 2:00 p.m., and shortly after 2:30, the festivities began. After the children settled down with their orange drinks, the Christmas entertainment was presented by Pat Petersen and Mary K. Thoma. These two young ladies are to be commended for their marvelous program of singing and story-telling, involvement of children in their act, which we all enjoyed. Pat Petersen led the children in singing Christmas carols and as “Jingle Bells” was enthusiastically sung, Santa Claus arrived with bells ringing and a loud Ho-Ho-Ho. The children then lined up to visit with Santa and to tell him what they wanted for Christmas. They all received Santa mugs filled with candy and a rolled up, ribbon-tied new dollar bill. An excellent meal followed which was enjoyed by children and adults alike in true fraternal fellowship. Door prizes were then awarded to both children and adults. Needless to say, a wonderful time was had by all. Branch 226 — McKeesport, Pa. 20
