Delegates and their family members being guest of the Associa­tion, NOW, BE IT RESOLVED, that a rising vote of thanks be given to the Officers, Directors and Banquet Committee for their consideration and generosity, WHEREAS, the Banquet Program was presented in such a fine manner by the Toastmaster, BE IT RESOLVED that our appreciation be extended to National President Elmer Charles for doing such an excellent job as Toastmaster. RESOLUTION WHEREAS, golf and tennis are two of the fastest growing sports in the nation and that many of our members participate in these activities, BE IT RESOLVED that the Conven­tion recommend that the Board con­tinue to sponsor golf and tennis events. RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the National Bowling Tournament is the greatest fraternal event of our Association, bringing together our members in frater­­nalism; and WHEREAS, this Convention is in­terested in improving the overall benefit of the tournament. RESOLVED, that this convention recommends to the National Officers and Directors that recognition be given at the tournaments and in the publication to each branch sending teams by mentioning the cities, the number of teams from each city and the name of all bowlers participating in the tournament. RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the 30th General Con­vention desires not only to continue but to increase the fraternal and social activities of the Association through its Branches, NOW, THEREFORE, BE AND IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED by the 30th General Convention of William Penn Association in regular meeting assembled in Pittsburgh, Penn­sylvania, this 14th day of September, 1983, that the Board of Directors be directed and authorized to continue to provide for the follow­ing fraternal activities: establishing from time to time the rules governing each fraternal activity and to provide for financial support as deemed necessary. (1) 50 Year membership recog­nition awards. (2) Illustrious Citations for meritorious service to the Association. (3) Scholarship Foundation sup­port. (4) Family Christmas Parties. (5) Publish an Official Organ with a Hungarian Language section. (6) Support Youth Camps. (7) Support Magyar Language Classes. (8) Arrange tours for the members. (9) Bowling Tournaments. (10) Any other worthy fraternal activity which will advance the purposes and aims of the Association and the fraternal benefit system as a whole. WHEREAS, this 30th General Convention has proceeded in an orderly and efficient manner; and WHEREAS, this efficiency is in large part due to the efforts of in­dividuals not visible to the delegates; and WHEREAS, the home office employees have dedicated their time, effort, attention and expertise to provide this convention with the proper materials and information. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RE­SOLVED that the General Conven­tion does hereby express its lasting gratitude and appreciation to the home office employees who have given of themselves to ensure a suc­cessful and fruitful convention. RESOLUTION WHEREAS, our stay at the William Penn Hotel was made pleasant and comfortable by the Management and Staff of the William Penn Hotel, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that this Convention ex­press thanks to the Staff of the William Penn Hotel. WHEREAS, our 30th General Con­vention concluded its business in three days, and WHEREAS, this was made possi­ble through the efforts of the Of­ficers, Executive Committee and Board of Directors, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that this 30th General Convention give a rising vote of thanks to Chairman Elmer Charles and Vice Chairmen John P. Balia and Albert J. Stelkovics for the efficient and fair manner in which the meetings were conducted. I move that the Report of the Resolution Committee be accepted. Danko proceeded to introduce the members of his committee: Joseph Arvay, Ronald Balia, William Bero, Barbara Banes Botkin, Sue Maddle, Anthony Noel, John Toth and Frank J. Wukovits, Jr. The delegates recognized the committee with a nice round of applause and sincere thanks and appreciation for their efforts. 72) Chairman of the Nominating Committee, Alex Debreczeni, re­quested to speak to the convention. He stated that Mr. Charles has been a long time employee of the Associa­tion. He has served as President of the William Penn Association for the past twenty years. He has served well and honorably. In recognition of is fine accomplishments, Mr. Debreczeni submitted the following resolution: RESOLUTION WHEREAS, Elmer Charles has served the William Penn Association for several years, and WHEREAS, he has served the last twenty years as its Illustrious Presi­dent, longer than any previous Presi­dent, and WHEREAS, he has represented our Association nationally and inter­nationally, gaining worldwide recognition for our Association, and WHEREAS, during his Presidency, the Association has furthered the ideals and principles of fraternalism by joining into cur Association other fraternal societies, and WHEREAS, Elmer Charles has now decided to bring his illustrious career with the Association to an end. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RE­SOLVED that this convention ex­press its sincere and lasting ap­preciation to Elmer Charles and bestow upon him the title of Presi­dent Emeritus. It was moved, seconded and the convention delegates adopted this resolution unanimously. The members rose and gave Mr. Charles a standing round of applause. 39
