William Penn Branch 18 Ladies Auxiliary The Ladies Auxiliary resumed their meetings after an enjoyable summer vacation. A donation of $500.00 was given to the William Penn Social Club for the purchase of a microwave oven for the kitchen for which Br. 18 President, Stephen Danko, thanked the ladies for showing their true spirit of fraternalism. Our Christmas party is to be held Sunday December 19th at the Social Club to celebrate the holidays and also show the ladies our appreciation for their co-operation and help throughout the year. President Kubovics retired as President of the Ladies Auxiliary and a gift of $100.00 was bestowed to her from the Ladies Auxiliary for her services of eleven years as President. She has worked hard for the Auxiliary and Elvira, we all wish you the best of health to you and your husband for your kind appreciation and service and may God Bless You and keep you, for we all love you. Branch 28 has been in a sort of vacation mood, but now we must make a concerted effort to get started on the new business, such as, the coming fall and winter events—nomination of officers in November; elections; tentative plans for the Christmas party. As we have stated in other letters, we invite the members to help make our branch more active. New blood is really needed! We old-timers are running out of ideas and we would welcome fresh in-put. However, the Home Office has certainly been busy. Please refer to the summer edition of William Penn Life and read the Minutes of the Board of Directors’ quarterly meeting. For starters: Item 10: Vacating of premises known as 429 Forbes Avenue. Item 11: Lease of office space at 100 Wood St. (Home Office’s new address) Item 22: . . . Inspection and purchase of about 2 acres of ground, plus house with about 3500 to 4000 sq. ft. on Delafield Ave., near Route 28, at a projected cost of about $180,000.00. The Board of Directors unanimously approved the purchase of this property from the city of Pittsburgh and will be the site of our New Home Office. Item 35: Effective January 1, 1983, all William Penn Association Branches are to be sub-chartered . . . General Counsel will prepare proper by-laws and charter for each branch of the association. So please take the time to read these minutes and be informed. We are sure that the members will be looking to the future for these improvements in the quality of the William Penn Association. We would also like to offer our sympathy to the members who have suffered hardship in the past few months: Loss of jobs, sickness, deaths. But there is another side to the coin of life: Weddings, anniversaries, reunions, births, greetings to loved ones who have come home to visit. We share these joys with you. See you at our Branch 28 meeting— second Monday of the month at 7:30 P.M. at Our Lady of Hungary Church basement. Gabe Nameth, our Branch Manager, will be glad to help you with all your insurance needs. John G. We are saddened at the passing of a long time member of Branch 34 in Hazelwood, Steve Kozma, on September 12, 1982. Steve’s wife, Irma, worked in the Home Office for many years in the Death Claims Department before retiring in April 1980. Besides his wife, Irma, he is survived by a son Daniel, an attorney working in Washington, D.C. and 4 sisters, residing in Pittsburgh. May he rest in peace.
