Bowling Prizes Increase The Board of Directors recently voted to increase the cash bowling prize contribution to create a great interest in participation in our 38th National Bowling Tournament which will be held in the great city of Chicago, Illinois. The Branches of the Chicago area are organizing committees to assure you that the 38th National Bowling Tournament Banquet will be the best yet. The Bowling Tournament that will be held on Memorial Day weekend, May 22-24, 1981 will be headquartered in one of the leading hotels, the Hyatt Regency O’Hare or the Marriott O’Hare. The standard rates in these hotels are between $80.00 and $100.00 per night and the rate for the bowlers and guests of the William Penn Association will be less than $37.00 per night. Plan to spend the weekend in Chicago with your friends. Bowling will be at the Holiday Bowl, only ten minutes from the hotel. National Catholic War Veterans Award Highest Honor To Member A OLGA CHERPAK The National Catholic War Veterans (CWV) have given their highest award, the Order of St. Sebastian, to Mrs. Mary Olga Cherpak, member of William Penn Branch 71, Duquesne, Pennsylvania, and the founder and past post commander of CWV Duquesne-West Mifflin Post 1855. National Fraternal Congress Meeting And Banquet Held In Pittsburgh The award was presented to Mrs. Cherpak (known to all William Penn Bowlers as “Ogla”) by the CWV’s National Chaplain, Reverend Hugh Gallagher from Cleveland, Ohio at the recent 45th CWV National Convention held in Las Vegas. She was inducted into the Order of St. Sebastian and received the citation and medal and was so honored “in recognition of high stature as a humanitarian and for undaunted service to God, Country and Home”. Mrs. Cherpak, a member of St. Mary’s Hungarian Byzantine Catholic Church in Duquesne, is the daughter of Mrs. Maria Duli, the wife of Michael Cherpak, mother of Mrs. Bonnie Burton and Mrs. Sandy Schaming and grandmother of four children whom all are members of the William Penn Association, Branch 71 of Duquesne. Her brother Andrew P. Duli, is the present post commander of CWV Duquesne-West Mifflin Post 1855 and the past National Treasurer of the CWV. Both her brothers (also William Penn Branch 71 members) Andrew, and Mr. and Mrs. George Duli of Escondido, California attended the National Convention to witness the induction. September 21 -24 was the date the 94th annual meeting of the National Fraternal Congress was held in Pittsburgh. This city is one of the most active fraternal centers in the United States. Pennsylvania boasts over 900,000 fraternal members, more than 70 member societies, 35 societies domiciled in this great Commonwealth. What is even more exciting for us is the fact that Elmer Charles, the National President of the William Penn Association is also the President of the Pennyslvania Fraternal Congress. Thus, under his leadership and guidance, one of the most successful meetings of the National Fraternal Congress was held. Mr. Charles played a key role in the success of this very important function The Officers, Auditing Committee Members and the Home Office Employees attended the banquet in large numbers. Wanting to join the ranks of the Military with her 3 brothers, Olga served in the U.S. Navy for 2 years as a Wave during World War II and was discharged as a petty officer first class telegrapher. In 1968, after her children were grown, she enlisted in the Naval Reserve at the McKeesport Reserve Center as a seaman. In February 1973 she was recalled to active duty to the Bureau of Naval Personnel, Washington, D.C. In September 1976 she was transferred to her present duty station, the Naval Reserve Personnel (See Pictures on Page 4) (Continued on Page 2) T
