Minutes. . . March 15, 1980. The newly inducted class was named in his honor for his lengthy service as Secretary of the Uniformed Units. It was moved, seconded and requested that this recognition be published in the William Penn Life publication. 44) It was moved, seconded and the Board of Directors approved the following resolution pertaining to the appointment of Acting Secretary and Acting Treasurer: RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the Board of Directors heard the letter of National Secretary, Albert J. Stelkovics, in which he announces his retirement as of June 28, 1980, and WHEREAS, this creates a vacancy in the position of National Secretary- Treasurer, and WHEREAS, the Board of Directors is desirous of filling these positions, temporarily. NOW, THEREFORE BE AND IT IS HEREBY UNANIMOUSLY RESOLVED by the Board of Directors in regular quarterly meeting assembled in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the 18th day of June, 1980 that the office of Acting Secretary and Acting Treasurer be created and the duties of these offices be under the direction of the National President, until such time as the positions of Secretary-Treasurer or Secretary and Treasurer are permanently filled. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Acting Secretary be Mr. Stephen T. Szilagyi, Vice President of Marketing and Mr. Gus G. Nagy, Vice President of Membership as Acting Treasurer. 45) Vice President Szilagyi and Vice President Nagy both thanked the Board of Directors for their confidence in appointing them to the positions of Acting Secretary and Acting Treasurer respectively. 46) Director Steve Lesco extended an invitation to the Board requesting that Cleveland, Ohio be considered as the site for the 1 982 Bowling Tournament and Scholarship Days. The Board of Directors authorized Vice President Balia and Vice President Nagy to travel to Cleveland for the purpose of checking into housing and bowling facilities for this tournament and report to the Board at their next meeting. 47) Director John T. Lesko presented to the Association a 50th Anniversary album of the American Life Insurance Association which covers the period from 1892 to 1 942. He requested that this history book become a part of the Association's library. 48) Director Frank J. Wukovits, Sr. remarked that he was very much concerned about the lack of interest the present generation is shown towards fraternalism and carrying on of our traditional branch activities. He requested that the Association try to assist in some manner to reactivate fraternal spirit not only in his area but throughout our jurisdiction to promote fraternalism and more interest in branch activities. 49) The Board acknowledged receipt of letter of thanks from the following: Director John Sabo; Mr. Bela Emri; Director Zoltán Emri; Branch 249, Dayton, Ohio; Hungarian Festival Club of Dayton, Ohio; James R. Farley, Acting Insurance Commissioner, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania; George S. Charles, Jr.; Martha Karpathy; Helen Werling; Helen V. Sabo, Branch 1 32, South Bend, Indiana; Mary M. Allen; Irma Kozma; Professor Steven Bela Vardy, Duquesne University; Walter W. Kolar; Tibor Udvardy; Thomas R. Balaban. 50) Moved and the Board agreed to appoint Louis Fodor, Auditing Committee member, to be the Association's official photographer. 51) National Secretary, Albert J. Stelkovics, offered to write the history of the William Penn Association from the 50th Anniversary in 1 936 of the Verhovay and 1 938 of the Rákóczi to the present time. The Board accepted this offer and the Association will provide the necessary material and equipment to complete this project. 52) It was moved, seconded and authorized by the Board that the Illustrious Citation be presented to Mrs. Karnya of Branch 14, Cleveland, Ohio. RESOLUTION WHEREAS, Mary Karnya, Branch 14, Cleveland, Ohio has diligently and faithfully served Branch 14 for 30 years as a Branch Officer, and WHEREAS, by her long and honorable service, Mrs. Karnya has qualified for the Association's Illustrious Citation, and WHEREAS, the Board of Directors is desirous of recognizing her meritorious service. The Red Cross recommends the following precautions to avoid choking: • Cut food in small pieces and chew slowly and thoroughly, especially if you wear dentures. • Avoid laughing and talking while chewing and swallowing. • Avoid excessive intake of alcohol before and during meals. • Don’t let children walk, run, or play while they have food or other objects in their mouths. NOW, THEREFORE, BE AND IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED, by the Board of Directors in regular quarterly meeting assembled in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, this 18th day of June, 1980, that the ILLUSTRIOUS CITATION be awarded to MRS. MARY KARNYA. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this citation be presented to Mrs. Karnya at some indoor function later this year. 53) National Secretary, Albert J. Stelkovics expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation on behalf of himself and his wife, Mary for the many kind considerations offered to him. 54) Chairman Charles thanked the Board members for their very fine cooperation in making this Board meeting a history making meeting. William Penn will continue in unity and strength. We will always be proud of our heritage as much as any other ethnic group. We hope our sister society will adopt our proposal and hoepfully begin to lay the foundation for that united and affiliated society that we are all dreaming about. This spirit of recognition and need for such organization, gives us a meaningful purpose. We have never hesitated to move forward to make this Association a bigger and better organization. Mr. Charles wished everyone and their families a most enjoyable vacation. In the spirit of brotherly love, he adjourned the meeting at 12:15 P.M. Respectfully submitted, Frank J.
