With the coming of summer and its related activities, we at Branch 76 are preparing for our Annua) Dinner Dance, to be held Saturday, November 1, 1980, commencing at 7:00 P.M. It will be held in the United German Hungarian Club’s modern facility in Oakford, Pa. We are advising our members and friends in advance to make their reservations on or before Saturday, October 25 with Branch Manager, Stephen Szemes, 428 Maplewood Road, Springfield, Pa., 19064. Telephone: 543-8876. The early notice is given due to the Fall edition of the William Penn Life which will not be delivered in time before our affair. We extend best wishes to our convalescing members, Helen Schenkel, Peter Wlosak and his wife Betty. We also sincerely hope that our members and friends will have a healthy and pleasant summer. Alex Chobody, branch manager, was honored with a testimonial dinner here on Saturday, July 19, 1980, where he was presented with the Association’s “Illustrious Citation” award by National President, Elmer Charles. Close to 200 members and guests met at St. Mary’s church hall in Yatesboro, Pa., to pay tribute to Alex who has been branch manager here for forty three years. Alex became a member of the William Penn in 1932 and became branch manager in 1937. He has also been the club Sec.-Treas. for the past ten years. He retired in 1976 from the R and P Coal Co. after 54 years in the mining industry. Alex now keeps busy with his club and branch activities along with his gardening. In addition to his wife Ann, his family of four daughters and two sons, and eleven grandchildren were all in attendance, along with three sisters and a brother. The family includes daughters Mrs. Jack (Viola) Baculik of Ford City; Mrs. Gene (Mary) Formaini of Yatesboro; Mrs. Ralph (Sylvia) Smith of Cleveland, Ohio; Mrs. William (Kathy) Hughes of Harrisburg; and sons Dennis of Yatesboro and Joseph at home. Sisters included Elizabeth Gottardi of Indiana, Pa., Ellen Pavlik of New Kensington, Margaret Berrie of Natrona Heights and brother Joseph of Elyria, Ohio. Members of the William Penn Official family attending the event were Elmer Charles, National President, who made the presentation to Alex; John Balia, National Vice President; Albert Stelkovics, past National Sec.Treas.; Steve Szilagyi, Vice President of Marketing; Emma Beganyi, National Auditor; Steve Lesco, Director; Roger Nagy, Alt. Director; William Kohut, Director; and Gay Banes, Legal Counselor. President of Branch 214 and his lovely wife; Mr. George Varga, Branch Manager and Secretary of Branch 214, who is also one of our old timers like Mrs. Kolish; officers and members from Branch 500. The William Penn Social Club will hold a card party on September 22, 1980. The William Penn Branch 18 will hold their annual card party on November 10, 1980. Please mark your calendars and patronize these events, because without you, it cannot be a success. Since our last publication, we have lost two former honorary presidents of Branch 18, Mr. Marton Marton and Mr. Steve Csabi.
