Minutes of The Excerpts from Minutes of the First Quarterly Meeting of the Board of Directors of the William Penn Association held March 17-19, 1980, in the Board Room of the Home Office, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. 1) National President and Chairman of the Board, Elmer Charles opened the meeting at 10:00 A.M. He welcomed the Board of Directors, Auditing Committee members and National Officers to the Spring Board Meeting in the new era of the soaring 80's, two days after the March 15, Hungarian Independence Day celebration. Mr. Charles requested each member to rise and sing the Hungarian National Anthem, led by the Vice President of Marketing, Stephen Szilagyi. Following the singing of the Hungarian National Anthem, Vice President Szilagyi recited the remaining eight stanzas of the Magyar National Anthem. National Secretary, Albert J. Stelkovics read a Proclamation by the Governor of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Governor Dick Thornburgh, with reference to Hungarian Independence Day, March 15, 1848. Board of Directors Quarterly Meeting It was moved, seconded and adopted by the Board of Directors to send a letter to Governor Dick Thornburgh thanking him for this Proclamation. It was further recommended by the Board of Directors that appropriate news release be made of this proclamation to the general public. Attending the signing of the Proclamation were Messrs. Charles, Balia, Banes, Nagy, Szilagyi and Stelkovics. Mr. Charles thanked the Auditing Committee for attending the opening exercise of the Board of Directors meeting. Mr. Charles welcomed former National Treasurer, Julius Somogyi and Medical Director, Julius Kesseru, M.D. Mr. Charles extended warm greetings from former National President, Julius Macker for a successful board meeting. The Chairman stated that the 1 980's will be a challenging decade. 1 979 was one of the best years experienced by the Association. We have a high number of members, primarily due to the merger of the American Life. The challenge is with us to continue to build the Association. He hopes this decade will bring all the Hungarian Fraternal Societies together and we should pledge ourselves to this cause, for in unity there is strength. Mr. Charles announced that Actuary Robert E. Bruce will not be present for this meeting due to prior commitment. His report will be presented later at this meeting. The President reported the following deaths: Steve Toldi, Manager, former Branch 47 —R, Iselin, Pa. Andrew Bocskoros, former Manager, Branch 1, Bridgeport, Conn. The Board stands in a moment of silent prayer for all deceased members. Recently hospitalized were the following: Jolán Kelemen —Home Office Employee. Eva Lehoczky — Home Office Employee. Sylvia Toma—Wife of Director Joseph Toma. Mr. Charles congratulated Director Frank Bero, who was appointed by the governor of Connecticut, as Chairman of the Real Estate Commission, State of Connecticut. The Chairman officially called the meeting to order. 2) Chairperson of the Auditing Committee, Emma Beganyi, extended greetings on behalf of the Auditing Committee. She was happy to see everyone present in good health and hoped this good health will continue long into the future. 3) The members present pledged allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America. 4) Vice President, Louis L. Varga, offered the following invocation: O Lord, we again thank Thee for Thy many favors, especially for our good health and our general well being. March is the beginning of Spring and the Easter season, a time of hope, renewal and fulfillment of our spiritual life. We, as Trustees of this Association, will have an opportunity to review our fraternal and financial progress of the past year and plan the direction for the future of our society. Lord, help us with our task. May we continue to be honorable in our endeavors. Save us from discord, confusion, pride and arrogance. Defend our individual liberties and rights and fashion us into a deliberative but united body. Endow with the spirit of wisdom those to whom in Thy name we entrust the leadership of this society. Grant to them courage, knowledge, patience and may we by our acts truly love each other more and more with each passing day. Almighty God, you have given us this society as our heritage. We humbly ask that we may always prove ourselves a Body directorate mindful of your favor and honored to do Thy will. Amen. 5) Chairman Charles excused the Auditing Committee so they may proceed with their duties. 6) Medical Director Julius Kesseru, M.D. submitted his report to the Board. The Board acknowledged Dr. Kesseru's report with thanks and appreciation. 7) Secretary of the Board, Frank J.
