Pennsylvania Governor Dick Thornburgh Proclaims Hungarian Independence Day The citizens of Pennsylvania with a Hungarian ethnic heritage were proud and very pleased to learn that the Hon. Dick Thornburgh, Governor of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania recognized the contributions of Hungarians to the growth and prosperity to this great State by proclaiming MARCH 1 5, 1 980 as HUNGARIAN INDEPENDENCE DAY. Since March 15, 1848 Hungarians all over the world commemorate the commencing of the fight for Independence from the Austrian domination when the legendary Sándor Petőfi recited his famous Nemzeti Dal the TALPRA MAGYAR!
