Minutes . . . Dayton, Ohio are progressing on schedule. Reservation has been made with the Dayton Stauffer Hotel, the bowling alleys, bus transportation and orchestra. A ladies luncheon is also being planned for Saturday. The Board acknowledged Director Kertesz's report with thanks. 52) It was moved, seconded and adopted by the Board that the 1 981 Bowling Tournament will be held in Chicago, Illinois. 53) Director Sabo moved and the Board of Directors authorized that the Executive Committee review the position of Secretary-Treasurer of the Association and submit its recommendation to the Board. 54) The Board of Directors also authorized the Executive Committee to review the reorganization of the Home Office and submit its recommendations to the Board. 55) It was agreed by the Board that they will meet on the following dates in 1 980. March 17, 18 & 19 June 16, 1 7 & 18 September 1 5, 1 6 & 1 7 December 15, 16 & 17 56) President Charles submitted a verbal report on the progress being made with regards to the merger of the American Hungarian Catholic Society of Cleveland, Ohio. The Board acknowledged the report of the National President. 57) National Secretary Stelkovics reported to the Board that certain states are requiring a CPA audit of the records of all Fraternal Benefit Societies. The Board acknowledges the report that presently Pennsylvania Insurance Commissioner is promulgating a similar regulation. Officers are authorized to take whatever steps are necessary to comply with these regulations. 58) National Secretary reported that Branch 296, Springdale, Pa. has pledged to erect a cabin at Penn's Scenic View and accepted the financial responsibility for this project. Branch 296 has deposited $ 1,000.00 with the Home Office to be known at the William Penn Association Branch 296 Scenic View Fund. The Board acknowledged this report and congratulated Branch 296 for being the first Branch to initiate such a program. 59) Director John Sabo congratulated the National President for the fine manner in which he conducted the 29th General Convention. Director Sabo stated he has witnessed many conventions since 1 943 and he has never seen a convention run as smoothly and in such harmony and unity. Director Sabo stated that he was speaking on behalf of all the Board members and again congratulated President Charles for an excellent convention. 60) National Secretary Stelkovics reported that President Charles was elected president of the Pennsylvania Fraternal Congress for the 1979-1980 Term. The Board congratulated the National President for this high honor and wished him much success in this position of responsibility among the fraternals of Pennsylvania. 61) President Charles thanked the Board for their kind expressions and stated he was always happy to serve the Fraternal Benefit System whether on the national level or state and local levels. These appointments not only bring him honor but more importantly it brings recognition and honor to the William Penn Association. 62) National President Elmer Charles reported that National Secretary of William Penn Association, Albert J. Stelkovics, has been awarded the "John Jordan Upchurch Award” presented by the Pennsylvania Fraternal Congress for distinguished and meritorious service to the Pennsylvania Fraternal Congress. The Board congratulated Secretary Stelkovics for this high honor of which he is well deserving. 63) It is moved, seconded and unanimously adopted to approve the following: RESOLUTION Resolved by the Board of Directors in regular quarterly meeting assembled in Pittsburgh, Pa. this 12th day of December, 1978 that for the calendar year 1980, in addition to the 4% dividend guaranteed in the annuity contracts an additional 41/2% dividend be credited on all annuity contracts in force more than twelve (12) months. 64) Secretary of the Board Frank J. Radvany stated that as Secretary of the 29th General Convention he taped the proceedings of the convention. He presented those tapes to the William Penn Association for their library for future use and reference. The Board acknowledged Two First Presidents? George Washington, though called the Father of our Country, was really not our first President! The first was Thomas McKean of Delaware, President of the Continental Congress, who signed himself President of the United States of America in Congress Assembled. However, Washington was the first president elected under the Constitution. the presentation of these tapes with sincere thanks. 65) Director Zoltán Emri extended holiday greetings from the officers and members of Branch 22, Roebling, N.J. 66) Director Stephen Danko also extended holiday greetings on behalf of the officers and members of Branch 18, Detroit, Michigan. He also extended a kind invitation for everyone to attend their Champagne Ball on February 1 6, 1 980. 67) Vice President Louis L. Varga also extended a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to the Board Members and their families. 68) President Charles presented a check to the William Penn Fraternal Association Scholarship Foundation from Vice President and Mrs. Louis L. Varga in the amount of $2,500.00 which they pledged at the 29th General Convention. 69) President Charles reported that he had reviewed the figures of the operation of the William Penn Association for 1979 and he feels very confident that the net results of our operation will again be successful. 70) The Chairman stated that he was about to close the meeting, however, before he did he wanted to extend much love for the Holiday Season. He requested that we all love one another and work in harmony and unity. He wished everyone a very Merry Christmas and a joyous, prosperous New Year, and presented his personal check to the Scholarship Foundation in lieu of sending Christmas Cards. 71) The Chairman adjourned the meeting at 12:00 P.M.
