The Executive Committee finds that this would require a change in the By-Laws and does not recommend that the By-Law change be made at this time. The Board adopted the recommendation of the Executive Committee. 16) Chairman Charles recessed the meeting at 5:00 P.M. till 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, September 13, 1977. 17) Prior to opening of the regular business session the Directors, Officers, Branch 1 Officers, their wives and guests attended mass at 8:30 A.M., Tuesday, September 13, in St. Emery’s Hungarian R. C. Church, Fairfield, Connecticut. This mass was offered by Father George Mészáros, Pastor, for the deceased William Penn Association members. In his homily Father Mészáros traced the history of the Hungarian Immigrants to this country. He detailed the role the Fraternal Societies played in the forming of parishes and congregations and how these two preserved the Hungarian culture in the U.S.A. The churches and societies are once again called upon to continue this cultural heritage preservation, he closed by congratulating the William Penn Association for what it is accomplishing in maintaining our Hungarian heritage. After church services the group gathered on the plaza in front of St. Emery’s Church where National President Elmer Charles presented to Father Mészáros the Association’s $500.00 check towards the Cardinal Mindszenty Memorial Square which will be established next to St. Emery’s Church. Father Mészáros expressed deep appreciation for the Board’s generous donation and was pleased to turn the check over to Mr. Louis L. Varga, National Vice President who is Chairman of the Mindszenty Memorial Committee. The event was later publicized in the local Bridgeport Post. 18
