(Continued from Page One) tremendous amount of restraint and patience. Finally, the representative of the airlines, with his bullhorn, advised the passengers that they will be ready for boarding in a short time. All of us were happy to see Mr. Gus G. Nagy, Vice President-Membership Services, busy with his camera and assisting wherever he could, together with his ever-present wife, Betty, between the two of them they helped make our departure that much more pleasant. We were also happy to see Magdolna Tamaska and her husband, Bandy, at the airport to bid us farewell and happy landing. The boarding was orderly and by row and seat number so that in a short time we were finally all aboard and seated ready for the take-off. As the giant engines revved up for take-off and the plane started down the runway I am sure most of us had a lump in our throat because we were leaving the United States of America and going to the country from whence our parents came. We were full of anticipation of what we were to experience in the next twentyone days. What seemed like an interminable length of time, the plane finally became airborne and we headed for our destination in Budapest. Bicentennial Tour As soon as the seat belt and nosmoking signs went off, the President of the William Penn Association, Mr. Elmer Charles, welcomed the tour members on behalf of the Officers and Directors of the Association and wished everyone a pleasant trip. He then called on Reverend Father John Nyeste for a prayer for a successful trip. Father Nyeste in both English and Hungarian asked for God’s blessing on our trip. Soon the members were roaming the aisles, talking with fellow passengers, discussing what they hoped to see while they were in Hungary. The Captain announced that we would be flying over Eastern United States, Newfoundland, then over England, across the English Channel, and on to Budapest. Excitement ran high and very few people had any sleep at all. As the plane flew over the continent of Europe and our destination was getting closer and closer, everyone was trying to get a view of Europe from the windows of the plane. A great sigh of relief went up from everybody when the Captain announced that we were starting our descent to land at the Ferihegy Airport in Budapest, Hungary. As the wheels touched down in Budapest, we all gave a sigh of relief, thanked God for bringing us safely across the ocean. The sight which met our eyes at the airport was unbelieveable. The railings of the airport were jam packed with flag waving and handkerchief waving Hungarians who were welcoming the 180 Americans to their native soil. As the door opened and we started down the gang-plank, waiting for us at the foot of the stairs were the representatives of the Magyarok Világ Szövetsége, through whose efforts we were able to arrange this successful tour. The ladies of the members of the official family were greeted with corsages. Dr. Zoltán Szabó, Secretary, greeted Mr. Elmer Charles, National President, and the entire contingent. Also in the reception party was Mr. Zoltán Kozari, Director, Mrs. Jolán Varga and several other officers. Since the airplane could not pull up to the terminal itself, we were boarded on to buses and taken into the terminal building where we had to present our passports and visas, and then to the waiting room where many members of the party were greeted by their relatives. Seldom does one see such a tearful and joyful reunion as we witnessed at the Budapest airport. After passing through the visa check, we were all required to pick out our own baggage, which had already come off the plane, and a porter came with cart to take the baggage to the waiting buses which were marked for the two hotels in which the group was staying, the Hotel Budapest in Buda, and the (Continued on Page Six) NATIONAL TREASURER MR.
