Radvany is one of the two living charter members of this organization which was founded over forty years ago for the purpose of promoting Hungarian culture and awarding scholarships to eligible students of Hungarian heritage. Much apprecitation is extended to National President Elmer Charles, who was the principal speaker of the evening. Our sincerest congratulations to Mr. Radvany. Our regular monthly meetings are held on the first Sunday of each month commencing at 2:00 P.M. at the American Hungarian Democratic Citizens Club on So. Clinton Avenue, Trenton, N.J. For servicing of your insurance needs contact Elsie H. Radvany, 2006 Yardley Road, Morrisville, Pa. 19067; Tel. No. (215) 295-2222. Elsie H. Radvany, Secretary 14 CLEVELAND, OHIO Mayor Joseph Dudás, a member of Branch 14 was sworn in to his second four year term of Office as Mayor of Lakeline Village, Ohio. The ceremonies carried Hungarian atmosphere. Granddaughter Kimberly Walcher, two years old, held the Bible during the oath. Father Kloos pronounced the invocation and benediction. Mrs. Elenore Mihály sang our National Anthem. The Mayor was presented with two Ohio flags, one by Senator McCormack and one by Commissioner Platz. A large portrait of the late Cardinal Mindszenty was presented to the Mayor by Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Repansky. Mayor Dudás at the last “Lake and Geauga County City Managers and Mayors Association” was elected as Secretary of the Organization. Our congratulations are extended to Mayor Dudás and may he continue to be active in Branch 14 affairs. March 28th was a perfect Spring day - made to order. Cleveland Branch 14 can’t take credit for the weather, however, we can take credit for the successful card party we hosted that day. Hard work and dedication resulted in one of the most enjoyable and profitable events held by our branch. With over 100 people in attendance, prizes including an all expense paid weekend for two at the Marriott Inn and a $25.00 war bond were raffled off. In conjunction with our party, through the sale of Wm. Penn Hungarian Cookbooks, we raised approximately $270.00 to benefit a devoted member of Branch 14 who has been ill. We are especially grateful to the youth of our branch who helped enthusiastically. We also wish to express our gratitude and thanks to Mrs. M ary Kamya, who, as usual, did a lion’s share of the work; Cal Kamya whom we can always count on to assist wherever and whenever needed, and to Director Steve Lesco and his enthusiastic family members who contributed so much to the success of this event. The success of our card party has paved the way for many more activities from Branch 14. Preparations are already underway for our “First Annual Scholarship Ball” being held on June 12, 1976. For information and/or tickets please contact Julie Stypa, 4203 Russell Avenue, Parma, Ohio 44134 or phone 216-749-3379. Julie A. Stypa Secretary 18 DETROIT, MICH. The Annual Champagne Dance held on Saturday February 14, 1976, is a very happy memory by now. The Hungarian Reformed Church hall was filled to capacity by the musical strains of Frank Borisz and his Continental Orchestra. The food catered by Mrs. Mary Gyorke was superb and even the weatherman cooperated to make that evening a glorious one. The out-of-town guests included Mr. & Mrs. Albert Stelkovics and Mr. & Mrs. John Balia from the Home Office, Director Steve Lesco, his wife, and guests from Gevelarid, Ohio, Mikola Reszso from the Hungarian Embassy and approximately ten or twelve persons from Toledo, Ohio. We wish to thank everyone who attended and helped make this affair the success that it was. The William Penn Branch 18 Social Club held its Open House (Private) for the Lincoln Park city officials and other Down River Hungarian officials, as well as the officers of Branch 18, Ladies Auxiliary and the Club on Tuesday, March 23, 1976. A buffet style dinner and liquid refreshments were served. Approximately 75 persons attended and some of the dignitaries were: Mayor Gish and wife; City Clerk Irene Bartal and husband; Councilman Vic Bonora and wife; Councilman Dejohn; Tom Murphy, President City Council; Lester Porath, City Assessor; James Crumby, Constable; Judge Wm. C. Chapman and wife; Edward Figure, City Controller; Tom Mueller, Safety Police Commissioner; and Harold Guyod, Superintendent of D.P.W. and Mrs. Guyod. Everyone had a good time and the food was delicious (as usual). The Club will now be open to all members every day except Monday, from noon until 12 midnight except on weekends when it will stay open until 2:00 A.M. Lunches, suppers and catered affairs will be available (Fish Fries on Fridays) as well as bar facilities. The location again is 1410 Southfield Road, Lincoln Park, Michigan. Telephone Number is 381-9881. Steve Szatmári is bartender-manager. The Ladies Auxiliary members are working hard to make their Annual Card Party a success. This affair will be held at the V.F.W. Hall, comer of Montie Road and Fort Street, on Wednesday evening, May 12, 1976, at 7:00 P.M. The tickets which are $2.50 per person are available from all Auxiliary officers and members. Be sure to attend and have a real good time as there will be plenty of prizes, pastry, and coffee. The Auxiliary members are also working on another money-making project- they have taken a booth at the Hungarian Festival to be held on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, June 11, 12, and 13, 1976 at the Yack Recreation Arena in Wyandotte. They will be selling various types of palacsinta and other Hungarian pastries. Be sure to reserve these dates on your calendar!! Well, bowling will be soon drawing to a close as far as the William Penn Mixed League is concerned - only a couple of more Sunday afternoons. At this writing Molnar’s Funeral Home is in first place - the team consists of John and Helen Molnár, Helen Sryniawski and John Yuhasz. The William Penn Mixed Bowling league’s bowling banquet will be held on Saturday evening, May 1, 1976 at the William Penn Club located at 1410 Southfield Road, Lincoln Park. The bowlers from Detroit who plan to attend the National Bowling Tournament in Pittsburgh over the Memorial Day holidays number approximately 14 teams (both men and women). Plans are being formulated to charter a bus for those who do not plan to drive. Call Mr. J. Macker (284-9660) if you are interested in going by bus. It is with a heavy heart that I report on the passing of Mrs. Suszanna Nelinger, one of the hard working pioneer women of Branch 18 and also the Ladies Auxiliary. She will be missed by many, not only her family. May her soul rest in peace. Also with sadness on the passing of Andy Toth, Jr. (Margaret New’s brother), Mr. S. Mosolgo (Margaret New’s uncle), and the late Mr. Andrew Tepfenhart (Rose Tepfenhart’s husband). May their souls rest in peace. Jolán Lucas is recovering from eye surgery and is okay!
