Our Branch is saddened by the untimely death of Mary Charles, beloved wife of our National President, Elmer Charles. Mary Charles was the heart and soul of all Ladies Aid activities of United Church of Christ and for all Branch 296 social function. Her wizardry in providing us with memorable meals will long be remembered, certainly her passing will leave an unfillable void in our Church and fraternal activities. The peace she made with her God during a very serious illness has been an inspiration to all of us who knew her and loved her. She certainly set for us an example of how to place our total faith in God’s Mercy and Care, for it is only He who can, with the passing of time, heal the hours of loneliness her death has caused. To our Elmer goes the true sympathy of the members of Branch 296. May her eternal rest be peaceful. Detroit William Penn Sports Club News The annual Christmas Party of the Sports Club was held at the home of Andrew and Julia Konkoly in Dearborn. We are happy that our sick ones are getting better, and even attended the Party— Joe Lorincz and Martin Rigo, Joe Demeter, Louis Lucas, Sr. Everyone else seems to be well and living the good life. Your reporter seems to be the only casualty for the time being, not really looking forward to eye surgery in the next month or so, but confident that the minutes and “Landmark” news will be more efficiently typed. May God grant all of you the best of everything you desire for this Bicentennial Year of 1976. Try and leave something good behind for the next celebration - the Tricentennial in 2076. As the man said, “Just when I was getting used to yesterday, along came today”. I’ll be here when I can see to write again...sometime in the spring. It must be foremost in every action, for in “Harmony” there is Strength, in Strength there is Security, in Security there is no Fear, in no Fear there is no Hate, in no Hate there is Love. The Harmony that we demonstrated at the convention, the dispelling of the fear for re-election, ané the love and respect for each other did produce the most effective, orderly, and above all, most constructive convention in the history of our Association. We are again entrusted with the future of our Association for four more years, I am grateful for every action of the convention, grateful for the confidence of the delegates, for their choice of electing each of you, in your respective positions, as my teammates. During the last three months I have learned the deep meaning of “Thy Will Be Done” in my daily meditations, so in the next four years, God willing, we must accept our tasks and new challenges without grumbling so that everyone may carry out his office and duties willingly and faithfully as Angels in heaven.
