Mr. Sheppard’s speech was enthusiastically received by the Convention members and the entire text of his speech is attached herto and made a part of these minutes. The Convention also welcomed Mrs. Sheppard who accompanied her husband to the Convention. The next item on the Agenda was the election of Convention Officers. In connection therewith, the following resolution is unanimously adopted by the Convention. RESOLVED, that the Officers of the 28th General Convention be: Chairman: Mr. Elmer Charles, National President Vice-Chairman: Mr. John P. Balia and Mr. Louis L. Varga, Vice Presidents Secretary: Mr. Frank J. Radvany, Secretary of the Board Assistant Secretary: Mr. Albert J. Stelkovics, National Secretary Chairman Charles thanked the Convention on behalf of his fellow Officers and pledged that he will conduct the meeting in a fair and impartial manner. Mr. Charles appointed the following as Sergeant-At-Arms: Frank Ruskay, Albert Ibos and Frank Kobli. 12. General Counsel Gay B. Banes introduced the Honorable Peter J. Flaherty, Mayor of Pittsburgh, who welcomed the Delegates to the City of Pittsburgh and wished all an enjoyable stay in Pittsburgh. 13. In memory of the deceased William Penn Association members during the past four years, a truly inspiring memorial service was conducted by Rev. Imre Kovács, pastor of the United Church of Christ, Springdale, Pa. As a tribute to the founding fathers of the Association, and their descendents, a part of the memorial service was conducted in Hungarian. National Secretary who participated in the services, read the names of the deceased Officers, Directors, Illustrious Members, Branch Officers and Official Family members. 14. Mr. Charles introduced Mr. Robert E. Bruce, Consulting Actuary, who arrived to be present for the remainder of the Convention. 15. The Convention commenced to review page by page the Report of the Board of Directors to the 28th General Convention. When the Convention reached the Point in the report pertaining to by-law amendments, the following resolution was adopted Be it resolved by the 28th General Convention of the William Penn 16
