Welcome into the Official William Penn Family Dr. Lang. that we compare him to the Blessed Doctor by using the words Of Matthew: “When he saw the large crowd, his heart was filled with pity and he healed their sick.” Dr. Gomory was inspired by the dictates of a noble heart, he accomplished many great and far reaching deeds. To those of us who are here today, and to many others, his memory will live forever in our hearts and we happily accept the truth of what Jesus Christ said: “Verily, verily I say unto thee, those who believe in me will do those deeds which I do, and even greater ones, tor I am going to the Father." Samuel C. Gomory, M.D., doctor and professor,'was born in Garany, Hungary, September 17, 1893. He received his medical doctorate at the University of Budapest in 1919. He arrived in the United States of America in 1923 where he opened offices in Hazelwood and McKeesport, Pa. In 1969 he was honored on the 50th anniversary of his becoming a medical doctor. He was an Illustrious Member of the William Penn Association, the Association which he served as Medical Director for 40 years. He was a member of the American Medical Association and Pennsylvania Medical Society. Also a member of the University Club, Pittsburgh, Pa., Hungarian Professional Society, Pittsburgh, Pa., Ancient Order Scottish Rite and Syria Temple. He was founding member of the Hungarian Room Committee, University of Pittsburgh, and shortly before his death he founded the Sumir-Hungarian Society. He was blessed with a devoted wife, now his widow, Mrs. Samuel C. Gomory, nee Sophia Lazarovits. All of Hungarian descent in Allegheny County can be thankful to Dr. Gomory, because through his ardent devotion to the Hungarian Room Committee he constantly kept the Magyar name before the public. Dr. Gomory did not expect and rarely received recognition and honor for all of his efforts in promoting the Hungarian Room activities, but he didn’t do this to be recognized, he did it because he had a great love for his Magyar heritage, and now, as we stand before his earthly remains, we say: "Thank you, Dr. Gomory, for all you did for our people.” We can best characterize him by saying he was most faithful, faithful to his beloved spouse, faithful to his profession, faithful to his Association, and faithful to his country. May his memory be forever blessed, and we join with Matthew (25:21) and say: “Well done, good and faithful servant. 13
