With the end of summer most all of us will out back on our outdoor activities — and prepare for the fall and winter seasons. Most likely many of you, with the price of produce being sky — high took up a healthy and beneficial pastime, gardening. On my part I’ve never gotten away from it, but this year I planted a bit more than usually. With the help of ideal weather, everything grew large and plentiful.When it came to canning time, we encountered problems, lack of jars, lids, rings, they were scarce and hard to obtain. I believe many of you also had this problem.

It is a sign of autumn when you receive the invitations from the nearby Branches to attend their respective Banquets and Dances.Wedoourbest to attend them whenever possible, as they are for a good causeto help support various Branch activities, or the Scholarship Fund.

Our annual Dinner Dance will be held Sat. Nov. 16-th 1974, at the United German Hungarian Club, Bristol Rd. Neshaminy Falls. Pa. commencing at 6:30 P.M. A full course delicious roast chicken dinner will be served, by the very capable U.G.H. ladies kitchen staff. Dancing from 9:00 P.M. to 1:00, A.M. to the tunes of the well known and popular Musical Caravan Orchestra, from Woodbridge, N.J. We sincerely urge our members and friends to attend this affair, as it has been well attended in recent years-at-testing to its growing popularity. This is our 17th Annual Dinner-Dance.

Our old friend Tony Noel, and Mrs. Noel visited our fair city recently, they’re now residing in Cape Coral, Fla. For many years prior to his retirement, Tony was President and an active Special Agent at our Branch. We were glad to see Vera Kustra, at our last meeting feeling mach improved, after being disabled for sometime.

Plans for our annual Children’s Christmas Party depends on the interest shown by the parents.

Branch 150 members were saddened to learn that former Branch Manager John A. Jeso died August 10, 1974. Mr. Jeso was bom January 29, 1883 in Imreg, Zemplen County, Hungary. He migrated to the U.S.A. in 1902 at the Age of 19. He became a member of the Association July, 1910. That same year he was elected an officer of the Branch and served as an officer, local organizer and Branch Manager for 60 years.

In 1970 the Board of Directors presented him with a special plaque for his many valuable contributions to the growth and prosperity of the William Penn Association. In 1953 the Board of Directors bestowed upon him the ILLUSTRIOUS MEMBER Citation, the highest achievement award the Association grants to its diligent and hardworking Branch Officers.

Mr. Jeso toiled for the cause of fraternalism and left an indelible mark on the Community which he served.

Our beloved Mr. Jeso was the Father of 13 children and is survived by 8 sons and 2 daughters. His wife Susan Bodnar Jeso predeceased him in 1961, as did three sons. There are 18 grand-children and 13 great grand-children surviving. Funeral services were conducted from the Grant R. Townsend Funeral Home and the United Methodist Church with the Rev. Thomas E. Crenney officiating. Burial was in Masontown Cemetery. At the Graveside Albert J. Stelkovics, National Secratary gave the eulogy on behalf of the William Penn Association.

The late Mr. Jeso many years ago inspired his son Louis to become active in the Association and today he is the Manager of Branch 150, Uniontown, Pa.

Mr. John A. Jeso was truly a pioneer Hungarian in America, one who built, churches, fraternal societies, social clubs and raised a beautiful family, thereby making valuable contributions to the growth of our Association.

He is no longer with us, but his memory

will be honored for time immemorial. May HE rest in peace.

Congratulations, to Mr. and Mrs Robert Hahlen on their 25th wedding anniversary, which they observed August 20th. Mr. and Mrs. Hahlen are the parents of two daughters, Jan, who is attending Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio, and Kim, who is attending State Middle School here in Alliance. Mr. Hahlen is a barber at the Mount Union Barber shop and is on the Board of Directors for Branch 189, Mrs. Hahlen is the daughter of Mrs. Julia Sera and the late Mr. James Sera she is the Credit Manager at the Sear Roebuck Company in Alliance.

We are very glad to hear Mrs. Anna Szekley is home from the hospital and is improving.

Sincere sympathy goes out to the family of Mr. William Voros at the passing of Mr. Voros. Mr. Voros lived in Canton, Ohio.The Board of Directors of Branch 189 have applied their many skills in maintaing the William Penn Home and putting it in tip top shape for the many festivities that are planned for the on coming months. Much thanks to the following: Mike Buzogány, for his painting technique, John Frances, for applying his skills as carpenter and electrican, Louis Frances, for aquiring material needed for the project, Robert Hahlen, for his experience in plumbing, last but not least, Michael Duruttya for assisting those mentioned above.

A reminder to football fans of Alliance, after each home game wieners and sauerkraut is served to the fans at the William Penn Home. It’s on the house so come and enjoy yourself. Keep Br. Mgr. Since school is back in session again, please drive carefully. Watch out for the children walking to school, also the children on bicycles who drive back and forth. Some times their little minds are preoccupied, so let us keep our minds occupied with their safety.
