Minutes of the Board of Directors Quarterly Meeting Excerpts of Minutes Of The First Quarterly Meeting Of The Board Of Directors Of The William Penn Association Held On, March 18-20, 1974 In The Board Room Of The Home Office In Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 1. Chairman of the Board, John P. Balia, opened the meeting. He was sorry BRANCH NEWS From page 4 nics and banquets and Hungarian dances. They were always present and well remembered for their hard work, kindness and smiling faces! God bless you both Mr. and Mrs. Bilcze! We are sorry to hear Mrs. Joseph Mathe and Mrs. Mary Linsmaier are both on the sick list. A speedy recovery to both of them. Also, we wish Mrs. Peter Chordash, who has been ill for quite some time to a speedy recovery. Our sympathy goes out to Susan Kay Varga at the death of her father. Social members, remember the social dinner to be held Aprif 20, at the William Penn Hall from 6:30 P.M. to 8:30 P.M. There will be dancing starting a 9 P.M. to the tunes of the Three Orchestra. Come and have a good time. In case Branch 189 bowlers will not be able to make the Bowling Tournament this year, we want to wish all bowlers lots of luck in Detroit! With our Christmas festivities and Winter activities at an end, our thoughts and efforts are now directed to Spring and Summer events. The kick-off for our Spring activities will be a Dinner Dance for the benefit of the Scholarship Foundation. Plans have now been finalized and the event will be held at the Duquesne Golf Club, Duquesne, Pennsylvania on Saturday, May 4, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Through the joint efforts and fine cooperation of representatives from surroimding Branches in Western Pennsylvania, all signs indicate that this Dinner Dance should be most successful and the high point of social activities for the new season. “Good Luck” and Best Wishes to those teams from our own Branch — and all Branches — participating in the bowling tournament in Detroit in May. We know you will do your very best! Violet B. Lenart to announce that our National President, Elmer Charles, was still confined to the hospital and would not be able to attend. We surely will miss his leadership and guidance. He then called upon Vice President Louis L. Varga to make the opening remarks. 2. Vice President Varga welcomed the Board of Directors, National Officers and Auditing Committee members on behalf of the National President. He was happy to see everyone present and eager to go forth with the business at hand, even with the absence of our National President. A year ago when our National President opened the meeting, he made reference and remembrance to the Hungarian Revolution of 1848 which occurred in the month of March. Vice President Varga did not wish to repeat the remarks, but all of us should think with reverence towards those who in 1848 struck for Hungarian F reedom: He sorrowfully announced the death of our beloved Board member, Rev. Andrew P. Jacobs. His leadership and counsel will be greatly missed by the Board and the Association. Many Directors, National Officers, Auditing Committee members and members at large attended his funeral. Vice President Louis L. Varga presented the Eulogy in English, and National Secretary Albert J. Stelkovics presented the Eulogy in Hungarian. Vice President Louis Varga also announced the death of Honorary President John Bencze, who at the age of 91 years passed away on February 20, 1974. Mr. Bencze will be long remembered for his many years of faithful, fraternal service rendered to our Association. He was a great Hungarian Stalwart and a fine leader.He was a man for the Times. “Non Better, Non Braver and Non Truer.” He had an emminent and exceptional career. National Secretary Albert J. Stelkovics gave the Eulogy in memory of Mr. Bencze. Vice President Varga announced the death of the following members: Balint Szalko, President of former Branch 42, Wallingford, Conn. Mrs. Louis David, wife of Louis David Manager of Branch 32. Mrs. John Silvas, mother of John Silvas, former Director of American Life John Borovics, President ot Branch 352, Coraopolis, Pa. Mr. Andrew Fay Fisher, former Editor of Bányászlap. The members present stood for a moment of silent prayer in memory of our deceased memBers. He congratulates Mr. Michael Hrabar, member of the Auditing Committee upon his election as member of the Woodbridge Township School Board. Vice President Varga stated that the Annual Statement has been prepared and filed with the Insurance Departments. The net results indicate that the Association enjoyed a profitable 1973. He expressed sincere thanks anf appreciation to the National Officers and Home Office Employees who worked so diligently in preparing the Annual Statement. Vice President Varga informed the Board that the Executive Committee did not meet since the last Board meeting until Sunday, March 17, 1974, because there were not enough matters to warrant the calling of the Committee into meeting any sooner. The report of the National President has been completed and presented to the Board of Directors for their consideration. Vice President Varga thanked everyone for their attention and hoped we would enjoy a pleasant and fruitful meeting. 3. Chairman of the Board John P. Balia also welcomed the members present and was happy to see each one in good health. He expressed deep sorrow that our National President is unable to be with us due to his confinement to the hospital. He stated that the work of our Association must continue and with mutual understanding, harmony and progress we shall accomplish the tasks before us. We have been deeply saddened by the death of Director Reverend Andrew P. Jacobs, and Honorary President John Bencze. With this sadness joy is also prevalent. Former Directors Stephen Danko is replacing Director Bev. Andrew P. Jacobs. Vice President Balia feels he is capable of filling the duties, and requested Stephen Danko to extend his fullest coopereation to the Board and National Officers. By full cooperation we can move the Association forward and he sincerely welcomed Stephen Danko as a Board members. The Agenda has been prepared. This will afford us the opportunity to review our operation of last year and make necessary recommendations for the future. The 1974 Budget is also prepared for our consideration. He welcomed the Auditing Committee members who are meeting the same time as the Board. He requested the Board Members and Auditing Committee members to show goodwill and respect for each other and hoped this will be a fruitful meeting.
