SICK BENEFIT RULES AND REGULATIONS REVISED AND LIBERALIZED Through the first 60 years of the Association’s existence, sick benefit was the major factor, as a matter of fact a person could not purchase life insurance unless he had sick benefit. Then as WW II ended and social security, medicare, medicaid and other Federal, State and local health programs were offered, the need for the old type sick benefit coverage dwindled and since 1956 it has not been sold. The Board of Directors is seeking means of converting the remaining sick benefit members to either a medicare supplement program or a daily room benefit program or some other program which relates more closely to todays needs, the Officers and Actuary have been given the assignment to suggest various proposals to the Board. In the meantime the Board has eliminated: 1. The 7 day waiting period, from now on a member is entitled to sick benefit from the first day of sickness or injury. 2. The 20 week limitation on benefits to which one is entitled per year. From now on benefits are payable for 52 weeks per year while member is sick, disabled and under doctor’s care. 3. The Association will now consider a late sick report claim for 2 years, previously we could only consider a claim back one year at the most. Please read the sick benefit Rules and Regulations carefully, they are being published in this issue of William Penn Life for the benefit of the sick benefit class members. Please retain this copy for your information and guidance.
