Branch 56 mourns the recent demise of one of its dedicated and valuable mem­bers, Mrs. Joseph Jurko, nee Zsuzsanna Lorincz, on January 16, 1973. Mrs. Jurko came to America at the age of 14 from Abauj Megye, Fuzérradvány. She was a faithful and active member for many years and held the office of Treas­urer. Her son, Stephen, followed right in­to her footsteps and holds the office of Treasurer for Branch 56. She is survived by her children, grand­children and 2 great grandchildren. Branch 56 officers and members sadly mourn her loss and extends deepest sym­pathy to her family. May she rest in peace. Branch 56 holds their regular business meeting every second Sunday of the month at 2:00 p. m. in the Holy Cross School Hall. We are indeed pleased to inform our membership that the Home Office has appointed Mr. William E. Kovács as General Agent of the Association. Mr. Kovács has 24 years of experience in the life insurance business as an Agent, Gen­eral Agent and Manager. He also speaks the Hungarian language. Robert M. Doroghazi has received his Bachelor of Science degree from the Uni­versity of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. Mr. Doroghazi is a member of Phi Beta Kappa honor fraternity, Phi Eta Sigma freshman honorary fraternity, and gradu­ated with Highest Distinction in Physio­logy, Highest Honors and is a James Scholar. He has been accepted for admission to the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine and will begin studies in September. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Doroghazi, 4027 Stearns Avenue, and the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Davis Nagy, Sr., 2400 Benton Street. Mr. Nagy was Treasurer and Branch Manager of Branch 187 for approximately twenty-five years. 189 Alliance, Ohio Many William Penn members of Br. 189 attended the Budapest Hungarian Choir Concert held here in Alliance at the Mount Union College. Mrs. Beatrice Keeler, who is a long time member of Branch 189, was the interpreter for mem­bers of the Choir when they toured our local newspaper plant here. Our social dinner and dance will be held May 5, at 6:30 P. M. for all William Penn and social members. Reservations must be in by April 25th. We are sorry to hear that Mr. Andrew Toth of Canton, Ohio is ill in Timken Mercy Hospital and we also hear that Mr. Alex Pataki of Alliance, is convalescing at the home of his son. We wish them both a speedy recovery. The wives of the William Penn Athletic Club feted their husbands at a St. Pat­rick’s Day dinner. Games, music, dancing and social visiting was greatly enjoyed. The dance was well attended by Branch members and their friends, as well as group representation from the Magyar Club of Dayton, and also the mem­bers of the Dayton Soccer League, we certainly extend our thanks to all who at­tended. National Director, Albert G. Kertesz, and Branch President, John Motko, pre­sented 50 year pins to John Dúsak, Mrs. John Dúsak, Mrs. Louis Kovács, Mrs. John Hanos, Mrs. Julius Kovács, and Miss Julia Ann Filo. The evening festivities, under the direction of Steve Horvath and Branch Auditor Frank Hoffer was a huge success, as a most enjoyable time was had by all. Special thanks are in order for Mrs. John Bauer, Mrs. Frank Kraska, Mrs. John Dúsak and Mrs. Irma Visinger, who prepared and served the fine Hungarian food. Also John Motko and John Dúsak for the very tasty Hungarian Kolbász they prepared. The tables and Hall were beautifully decorated by Irene Stefan, and Margaret Horvath. Music for the evening’s entertainment was presented by the Lou Motko - Ted Sanko Gypsy Orchestra. At this time plans are being formulated to have a large delegation of Daytonians in attendance at our forthcoming National Bowling Tournament and Scholarship Foundation Days celebration on May 26th and 27th in Cleveland, Ohio. Perhaps other cities will do likewise and jump on the bandwagon (or charter bus). Monday, March 19, 1973 will be a memorable day in the history of Branch 296, Springdale, Pa., for it was on this date that the WILLIAM PENN ROOM in the United Church of Christ Hall was dedicated. The impressive ceremony com­menced with church services, in the sanctuary conducted by Rev. Imre Kovács, Pastor of United Church of Christ, Spring­­dale, Pa., Rev. Andrew P. Jacobs, Direc­tor sat in the Sanctuary. Organ music was provided by Stephen Charles who also sang a hymn as part of the services. After the dedication ceremonies there was a reception in the WILLIAM PENN ROOM. This was followed by a delicious Dinner prepared and served by the Ladies Aid of the Church, headed by Mrs. Elmer Charles. Following the sumptious repast there was a short program. Albert J. Stelkovics, Secretary of Branch 296 served as toastmaster. He outlined the history of the cooperation between the Church and Branch 296 and how the Branch sold its building to the Church. He called upon Mr. Elmer Charles, National President for a few remarks. Mr. Charles stated that although the reason for getting together was the dedication of the WILLIAM PENN ROOM, however, the real purpose of the gathering was to pay tribute and give testimony to Mr. Louis L. Varga, Vice President who has served the Association so well for thirty years. Mr. Charles explained about the many meetings he held with Mr. Varga prior to the merger and dealt on length 6
