Minutes of the Board of Directors Quarterly Meeting Exerpts of the Third Quarterly Meeting of the Board of Directors of the WILLIAM PENN ASSOCIATION Held September 11-13, 1972 in the Board Room of the Home Office in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. 1. National President, Elmer Charles, welcomed the Board of Directors, Audit­ing Committee Members and National Of­ficers to the third quarterly meeting of 1972. He stated this is the fourth time during my service as your President that ni) heart is filled with sorrow as I open this third quarterly meeting of the Board of Directors. Today, as on three previous occasions, my eyes are looking in vain for a dear face, a familiar smile, the eager eyes are looking back at me in anticipa­tion of inspiration and service. We bade farewell to Director Aloysius Falussy, then our Vice President Julius Lenart, then Michael Faczan, and now. our latest loss, our “Dear Bandi”, Dr. Andrew Ko­vács By the Divine Wisdom of Providence, which ordered that our great Association must continue, even though there is a change of the guards, we see that this place is readily taken almost on a mom­ent’s notice by alternate Director Frank J. Wukovits, Sr. We solemnly greet you, Frank, in your renewed position of great responsibility, and pray that the great pacifying and con­ciliatory spirit of Dr. Kovács will continue in your dedicated presence. Dr.Kovacs’ funeral, at his own planning and desire, was carried out in the most humble and simple manner. Thousands would have come to pay tribute to a great and beloved physician, and friend, but he didn’t want to put anyone under the ob­ligation of bidding him farewell. Con­sequently, the funeral was “a private one” with only the family present. Your Presi­­den was there with Vice President John Balia, National Treasurer Julius Somogyi, his closest friend Director Sabo, and Gus Nagy, Field Manager, serving as pall­(Continued from page 9) AUDITING COMMITTEE REPORT efficiently administered under the capable leadership of the National Officers. On behalf of the Committee, Chairman Kereszti extends thanks to all the Officers and Home Office employees for their kindness and cooperation in making their stay a very pleasant one. Our examination was made in accord­ance with generally accepted auditing standards and included such tests of the accounting procedures as we considered necessary. In respect to the wishes of the deceased and his beloved “Margit­ka”, no eulogy was presented at the cas­ket. Instead, we shall pay our respect to this noble life at this meeting, expressing our appreciation for the life of Director Andrew Kovács, not because he was great, but because he permitted God to act through Him greatly. The Eulogy by Mr. Charles will be printed and presented to the Family. Following the eulogy, President Charles announced the death of Mr. Alexander Nyirati, former member of the Auditing Committee and Illustrious Member, Br. 249, Dayton, Ohio. Mr. Leslie R. Monos, Sr., Manager of former Branch 477, Niles Ohio. Mr. George Sass, former Branch Of­ficer, Branch 14, Cleveland, 0., after six­ty-five years of membership In tribute to our deceased members, the Board of Directors, Auditing Committee Members and National Officers rose for a moment of silent prayer. President Charles also announced that Gaspar Papp, former Chairman of the Auditing Committee, suffered a severe heart attack and is now recuperating. He also reported that Director William C. Ko­­hut is also recuperating and is progress­ing satisfactorily following surgery. Di­rector Kohut regrets he can not be pre­sent for this Board Meeting and sends his best wishes to all present. He also re­ported that former Director Louis Vassy is recuperating from his illness and we wish him a speedy recovery. President Elmer Charles welcomed the Auditing Committee Members who are conducting their semi-annual audit this week. He wished each member a pleasant stay in Pittsburgh and much success in their work ahead. He also welcomed Audit­ing Committee member, Michael Kara, who just returned from a visit to Hungary and the Olympic Games in Munich, Germany. He also welcomed Medical Director Sam uel C. Gomory and General Counsel Gay B. Banes to the Board Meeting. He extended birthday greetings to Di­rector Albert Kertesz, Medical Directoi Samuel C. Gomory, Director John Sabo, Director Frank Bero and General Counsel Gay B. Banes who recently observed, or were about to observe their birthdays. The Agenda has been prepared and the Report of the National President to the Board of Directors has been submitted for further deliberation. President Charles requested Vice Pre­sident Louis L. Varga to officially install Frank J. Wukovits, Sr. as Director of the William Penn Association. Vice President Varga informed Mr. Wu­kovits that although he has served as Di­rector before, he will notice new faces on the Board w7ho are carrying on the work of the Association. Some of the younger facs he sees are seeking changes, peace at heart, friendly deliberation, and a look to the future for greater heights for our Association. He welcomed Frank J. Wukovits and hopes he will join his fellow Directors in harmony and good fraternal spirit, as the coming years may be the greatest challenge in the history of our Association. Vice President Varga officially installed Frank J. Wukovits, Sr., as Director of the William Penn Association. 2. Chairman of the Board John P. Balia thanked President Charles and Vice Pre­sident Varga for their kind remarks. He once again was happy to welcome each and everyone present. He, too, wished to share the sorrow in the death of Director Dr. Kovács. He was happy to hear that Di­rector Kohut is progressing satisfactorily. Chairman Balia stated the President’s re­port was submitted and feels that certain items in the report will need our delibera­tion and decision which he is sure will be in the best interest of the Association. He welcomed Director Wukovits to our midst. 3. The Board of Directors, Auditing THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS of the WILLIAM PENN FRATERNAL ASSOCIATION announces with profound sorrow the death of Dr. Andrew Kovács — Director BRANCHES 014 and 045, CLEVELAND, OHIO an ILLUSTRIOUS MEMBER of this Association. The Board of Directors in paying final Tribute to the memory of our ILLUSTRIOUS MEMBER, conveys on behalf of the membership of the Association, its deepest sympathy to the bereaved family. 10
