SCHOLARSHIP AWARD WINNERS Continued from page 1 Stephen Vargo Stephen Vargo, member Branch 127. Joliet, Illinois is pursuing a pre-medical course at Joliet Junior College, is 19 years old. He is a member of Students of Med­ical Sciences and does volunteer work for the Illinois Youth Commission in Depart­ment of Correction. He, together with seven brothers and sisters are lifelong William Penn members. Steve’s Father is Branch Manager of the Association in Joliet. Dennis Liptak Dennis Liptak member of Branch 1, Bridgeport,Conn. 19 years of age, a stu­dent at Boston College and has selected the career of a C.P.A. He is involved in work study program for the Boston Lib­rary. His Father is an Optometrist in Tor­­rington, Conn. His Grandfather was Br. Officer of the former Torrington Branch for many years. James D. Charles James D. Charles, 18 years old and is enrolled at Duquesne University where he will pursue a course in pharmacology. He is a student of music and this summer was a member of an orchestra which toured England and France . He is a member of Branch 296, Spring­­dale, Pa and his Father is Branch Man­ager of the Branch. He is a nephew of National President Charles. Robert Hildenbrand Robert Hildenbrand, age 18 years old, student at Duquesne University, where he is majoring in accounting. He is mem­ber of Branch 89, Homestead, Pa. His Father is employed in the Homestead works of U.S.S. Dean J. Mayors Dean T. Mayors, age 21, member of Branch 28, Youngstown, Ohio. He is a Junior at Notre Dame University, South Bend, Ind. and is a pre-medical student. He is Secretary of Notre Dame Medical Club and a newscaster on the University’s radio station. His Father is a Captain in the Youngstown Fire Department. Arlene Osaq Arlene Osag, age 21, member of Branch 16, Perth Amboy, N. J., is a Junior at University of Connecticut, ma­joring in Special Education. She is a sectional leader in Tutorial Program for retarded children, Mansfield, Conn, and also does volunteer work at Conn. State Training School.Her Father is with Agrico Chemical Co. Dorlinda A. Varga Dorlinda A. Varga, age 20, Sophomore at Goucher College, Towson, Maryland and is a pre-medical student. She is a member of Branch 22, Roebling, N. J. Dorlinda does volunteer work at the Shep­pard and Enoch Pratt Hospital (Psychi­atric Faculty) and works as a recreational leader for disturbed adolescents. Her Father is an electrical contractor in Florence, N. J. Raymond C. Pavlosky Raymond C Pavlosky, age 18, member, of Branch 52, Windber, Pa. Freshman at Virginia Military Institute, Lexington, Va„ is enrolled in a pre-medical course. Active in athletics and is in Air Force R.O.T.C. His Father is with Hahn Pack­ing Co. David Lorincz David Lorincz, age 18, freshman at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and wi'l pursue a course in Architectural Engineer­ing. A member of Branch 383. Buffalo, N. Y. Participates in sports and is inter­ested in music. Father is a teacher. Nancy Wytko Nancy Wytko, age 21, is a senior at Youngstown State University. Majoring in Music Education. She is a member of Branch 26, Sharon, Pa. Her Father is a machinist. Gail Wangerien Gail Wangerien, age 18, freshman at Fairleigh Dickinson University, majoring in psychology. Does volunteer work at St. Peter’s Hospital. Is a member of Branch 19, New Brunswick, N. J. Her Mother is with Johnson and Johnson Co. The amount and number of scholarship grants to be made for the 1973-1974 aca­demic year will be entirely dependent upon the support the Fund will receive. It is hopeful that this first effort can be substantially increased and with your help only can this goal be accomplished. Please help with whatever amount you can afford. Eligibility Rules 1. The Board of Directors, William Penn Fraternal Association Scholarship Foundation, Inc. has established the fol­lowing rules, which must be adhered to in order for anyone to be eligible for a scholarship grant. a) It is required that the father or mother of the applicant be a beneficial member of the William Penn Association. b) The student applying for scholar­ship grant must be a beneficial member of the William Penn Association as of January 1, of year for which application is made, or must be the child of a de­ceased member. c) Only those students may apply for scholarship grants who have been accept­ed by or are already attending an ac­credited college or university, or school of nursing. A transcript of the applicant’s scholastic record must be attached to the application. d) A scholarship grant can be awarded to full time students only, therefore, scholarships will not be granted to a stu­dent who is continuing his studies in night school, in an extension course, or through a correspondence course. e) Parents of applicants must file con­fidential financial statement on form pro­vided by the Foundation and all other necessary information which may be re­quired. f) Scholarship grants will be awarded by the Executive Committee of the Wil­liam Penn Fraternal Association Schol­arship Foundation, Inc. once each year in the month of March, all applications must be received at the Home Office by March 1st of each year. g) Grants are to be paid directly to the applicant and not to the school which he or she is attending, provided he or she is a member in good standing on date award checks are issued. h) Grants are awarded for one year only. In order to be considered for schol­arship grants in successive years, the stu­dent must again apply and qualify. 2. The Board of Directors of the Wil­liam Penn Scholarship Foundation, Inc. have decided to award scholarship grants in three categories, namely: a) Category I. For outstanding schol­astic achievement. b) Category II. For financial need. c) Category III. The annual donation of $1500.00 by the William Penn As­sociation to the Scholarship Founda­tion is to be used for qualifiers who are pursuing a full-time college course, majoring in insurance mar­keting, provided that the recipient agrees in writing to sign an employ­ment contract with the William Penn Association after successfully com­pleting his college course in insur­ance marketing. 3. Applications for scholarship grants and other necessary forms may be obtain­ed by writing directly to the William Penn Scholarship Foundation, Inc., 429 Forbes Avenue, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15219, or by contacting your local lodge Secretary. 2
