J., donation of $100.00 and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Branch of $10.00. The following Directors donated to the Fund at this time: Albert G. Kertesz. $25.00; John P. Veszprémi, $25.00; Stephen Lang, Jr., $100.00; Zoltán B. Emri, $25.00; Louis L. Varga, $150.00, and an addi­tional $25.00 in memory of the late Field Representative Stephen Úsztok; Dr. Andrew Kovács, $100.00; Frank Bero, $100.00; Michael Hegedűs, $100.oo; Wil­liam C. Kohut . $100.00; Joseph Toma $100.00; General Counsel Gay B. Banes, $100.00. National Auditing Committee member Michael Kara donates $20.00 in memory of his father. 5. President Sabo and National Presi­dent Elmer Charles both express appre­ciation and thanks for the generous con­tribution. Such enthusiasm and support should assure the steady growth of the Scholarship Foundation. 6. Mr. Charles reports that in order to be able to reach our membership for do­nations, plans should be made to insert envelopes with the payment notices and thus raise funds. 7. Director Jacobs suggests that we all contact our local clergy, parish organi­zations, clubs such as the Elks, Kiwanis and similar organizations, for financial support. He also believes that by contact­ing Hungarian professional people we would find a great source of raising funds. 8. It is moved seconded and adopted that we should publicize our Scholarship action in local papers in each city. Also, one whole page is to be set aside in our own JFilliam Penn Life for this purpose. 9. Board members are requested to take steps at Branches in their area to create Scholarship Foundation Committees and request all members to take an active part in this program. 10. The 1973 Bowling Tournament to be held in Cleveland, Ohio shall be called the Scholarship Foundation Bowling Tour­nament, and all those attending shall be solicited for donations. 11. It is unanimously accepted that all branches be requested to set aside one day each year on which they shall hold an affair, the proceeds of which shall be turned over to the Foundation. 12. President John Sabo thanks Mr. Elmer Charles, Mr. Albert J. Stelkovics, Mr. Julius E. Somogyi for their assistance at the Executive Committee meetings. 13. Moved, seconded and unanimously adopted that the Executive Committee be expanded to include Messrs. Albert J. Stelkovics, Julius E. Somogyi and Gay B. Banes with voting rights. 14. A periodic report on the status of the Foundation shall be made to the Na­tional Auditing Committee. Our good neighbor and friend Mayor Joseph Dudás of Lakeline, Ohio attended the Branch 14 70th anniversary banquet and had on display the instruments used by the Verhovay Br. 248 Brass Band in 1937 he writes the following: “Verhovay Fraternal Band of Branch 248, Logan, West Virginia was the first Brass Band (rezesbanda) in the area, it was organized by Joseph Tira Sr. in 1937. The band played in three States: Ken­tucky, West Virginia and Ohio. Mr. Tira was also a composer and composed sev­eral csárdás numbers. The members of the Band were: Joseph Tira Sr., lead coro­net, Joseph Tira Jr., lead trumpet, Joseph Dudás (His Honor), French horn and 15. Moved, seconded and the Board adopted the following resolution in re­cognition of services rendered to the As­sociation by Elvira László, Secretary of Branch 18, Detroit, Michigan . RESOLUTION WHEREAS, Elvira László, secretary of Branch 18, Detroit, Michigan, has faith­fully served as an Officer of Branch 18 for more than 25 years, and WHEREAS, Elvira László has qualified for the Association’s Illustrious Citation. NOW, THEREFORE, be and it is here­by resolved by the Board of Directors that the ILLUSTRIOUS CITATION and Lapel Pin be awarded to Elvira László for faithful service to her Branch and Asso­ciation. 18. Moved, seconded and the Board adopted the following resolution in re­cognition of services rendered to the As­sociation by Charles Akai, President of Branch 24, Chicago, Illinois. drums, Joseph Orso, trombone, Andrew Tira 2nd trumpet, Andrew Benny, sax and clarinet, Andrew Olah, alto horn and Alexander Kakuk, brass drum. Only four of the original band members are known to be alive. The first dance sponsored by the band in the well known Hungarian Hall ‘Tekints be a gondüzöbe’ (step into the gloomchaser hall) of Logan, West Virginia.” Mayor Dudás has promised to donate to the William Penn Heritage and Museum Room, when it is opened in our new build­ing, the base drum pictured here. We appreciate Mr. Dudás’ continuel in­terest in and support of the William Penn. RESOLUTION WHEREAS, Charles Akai, President of Branch 24, Chicago, Illinois, has diligent­ly and faithfully served as an officer of Branch 24, Chicago, Illinois, for more than 25 years, and WHEREAS, by his length of honorable service Mr. Akai has qualified for the As­sociation’s Illustrious Citation, and WHEREAS, the Board of Directors is desirous of recognizing meritorious service, NOW, THEREFORE, be and it is here­by resolved bv the Board of Directors that the ILLUSTRIOUS CITATION and Lapel Pin be awarded to Charles Akai. 19. It was moved, seconded and adopted by the Board that the Executive Commit­tee review the Illustrious Citations and Lapel Pins and submit to the Board re­commendation for redesigning the same. 20. The Board acknowledged receipt of letters of thanks from families of Antal Borsody, Stephen Torok, Stephen Nagy and John P. Evans on their recent be­reavement. The Board further acknowledged re­ceipt of letter of thanks from Jeno Sze­­bedinszky, Rev. László Berzeviczy, and 14
