Successful Scholarship Dinner-Dance held in Jersey Check presented by Dir. Hegedős to Dir. Bero, Scholarship Treas. I to r • J. Arvay, Br. 19 Pres., E. Charles, Nat’l Pres., Directors-. Bero, Hegedűs, Radvany The First Annual Scholarship Dinner Dance, hosted by the New Jersey Branches of the William Penn Fraternal Association, on April 24th, 1971 in New Brunswick, New Jersey, attracted a large jvy of National Officers, National Directors, Auditing Committee Members, and Contingents, covering the entire eastern area of the United States. National Directors Michael Hegedűs and Frank Radvany served as Honorary Chairmen. Joseph Arvay, President of Branch 19 was General Chairman, ably assisted by a committee of members from all of the participating New Jersey Branches. Director Michael Hegedűs served as Toastmaster, and introduced the following: National President Elmer Charles, National Vice President and Chairman of the Board, John P. Balia, National Vice President Louis L. Varga and his wife, National Secretary Albert Stelkovics and his wife, National Treasurer Julius Somogyi and his wife, General Counsel 50 Yr. Membership Plaques presented by Dir. J. Macker to Mrs. Anna Herceg and Mrs. John Pinter. Pres. Charles on right. Gay B. Banes, Directors Stephen Lang Jr., Joseph Toma, Frank Bero, Frank Radvany and their wives. Directors Julius Macker, Frank Wukovits and retired former Director Stephen Lang Sr., from Bethlehem, Pa., National Auditors László Kereszti, Zoltán Emri and his wife, Field Manager Gus G. Nagy, Past President of the recently merged St. Stephen Society of Trenton, Mr. Stephen Barnacz, the J. Arvay, Br. 19 Pres., presents 30 Yr. Service Plaque to Dir. M. Hegedűs. Left to right - Pres. Pres. E. Charles on right. men of the World. Reverend Julian Fuzer of St. Ladislaus Church sent his regrets, but along with it enclosed a check for $25 for the Scholarship Fund. Judge Louis Sellyei of the St. George Society also could not be present, but sent a check for $10. He and his wife were celebrating their wedding anniversary. We wish them many more. Joseph Arvav, President of Branch 19, surprised Director Michael Hegedűs with the presentation of a plaque citing “30 Years of Fraternalism” in behalf of Branch 19, New Brunswick, N. J. Recipients of Illustrious Citations were Mr. Michael Hrabar and Mr. Steve Vidám. Mrs. John Pinter and Mrs. Anna Herceg were honored as 50 Year Members with Illustrious Citation presented to Stephen Vidám, Pres., Br. 70, Newark (center), by Nat’l Vice Pres. Louis L. Varga. Pres. E. Charles on right. plaques and pins presented to them. Scrolls in recognition of Service, to the St. Stephen Society of Trenton, N. J., were presented to Past President Stephen Barnacz and Past Secretary Anthony Tezsla. Mr. Barnacz accepted the scrolls, as Mr. Tezsla was unable to attend. National President Elmer Charles was the principle speaker, and he stressed the importance of Fraternalism within our organization, the great strides attained by our Association, citing the fact that, insurance in force has gained over ten million dollars in the last two years, and our profit gain was the highest in the history of the Association. He congratulated the participating New Jersey Branches on the fine display of “Brotherhood”, in sponsoring an affair of this kind.
