Nagy, Supervisor of Agencies for the William Penn Fraternal GUS being welcomed by Major General John M. Wright. Association, received an official welcome from Major General John M. Wright, Commandant of Fort Benning. Gus is the Commandant of the 2073d ARSU Pittsburgh USAR School. He is here with his unit to conduct the Active Duty Phase of the Infantry Officers Career Course. Officers come from all parts of the Nation to attend this course of instruction. The Staff & Faculty selected by Col. Nagy consist of University Professors, Business Men, and leaders of industry. They too came from all parts of the United States. Before the entry of the United States into World War II, Gus, at the age of 25 was enlisted in the Army. He quickly rose to the rank of Captain and commanded a Company of Infantry through two bitterly fought campaigns in Europe. And Gus was there too, in those final days as the end of the war neared. Old men, women and children fleeing to the west, and the thousands trapped on the rivers bank. The Russians only miles away. But there was Big Gus. Those thousands never knew his name, but we know they have him in their prayers nightly. He got them across. At the end of the war Gus was separated from the service, but remained in the active reserves. He was one of the few who aided in the organization of the 2073d Pittsburgh USAR School. He served in many capacities in those early days, but he found time to further his military education. He received an associate degree in 1963 from the Command and General Staff college in Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas. This is a success story of a man. A tough man. A gentle man. A compassionate man. He never quits. He made it to the top. Commandant; 2073d ARSU Pittsburgh USAR School. Nice climbing Gus. Do we see a star?
