The Youngstown National Silver Tournament and Fellowship Days Huge Success

ATTENTION MEMBERS

Members of the Association will greatly assist in expediting the handling of their premium payments under the Direct Premium Billing System if they follow these procedures:

1. By paying early, delay in transmittal and handling will be avoided and the sending of "Late Notices" will be unnecessary. All payments must be received in the Computer Center, P.O. Box 1807, Pittsburgh, Pa., 15230 before the 20th of the month in which payment is due. The due date is the first day of the first month covered by the payment. For example; those on a monthly basis must get the monthly payment to Pittsburgh, Pa. within 20 days of the first of that month. Those on a quarterly payment basis must get the payment to Pittsburgh within 20 days of the first day of the first month of that quarter. For example; a quarterly payment due for January, February and March, must reach Pittsburgh before the 20th of January.

2. Be sure that you mail the payment in the special return addressed envelope provided for that purpose.

3. Be sure to return with your payment the Premium Due Notice you received in the mail.

A Quarter Century of Bowling Tournaments and Fellowship Days was appropriately celebrated in Youngstown, Ohio June 1 and 2, 1968 where the host Branch, Branch 28 with its Local Committee in cooperation with the National Committee joined forces to make this event one of the nicest in the history of these fraternal activities.

For historical purposes we quote the following from the Silver Anniversary Program booklet:

“The very first tournament had a modest beginning on March 21, 1942 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with 10 men’s teams and 6 women’s teams. Trenton, New Jersey and South Bend, Indiana were the first champions in the Men’s Division, while South Bend, Indiana and Youngstown, Ohio captured the first laurels in the Women’s Division.

“Credit for the advancement of our bowling tournament belongs to many, but initially to Albert B. Ari, Trenton, New Jersey, Frank Brogley, Youngstown, Ohio and Joseph M. Prince, M.D., Dayton, Ohio, former directors. Others who contributed much to the growth and success of this fraternal activity are Andrew Kovács, M.D., Rocky River, Ohio, who was Chairman of the National

Bowling Committee for the consecutive years, working with John Sabo, Pres! dent Elmer Charles, Richard J. Phillips John P. Balia, New Kensington, Pa. Michael J. Faczan, Johnstown, Pa., A1 bért B. Ibos, New York, Michael Korosy Alliance, Ohio, Gabriel Czemai, Duquesne Pa., Charles Smith, Lorain, Ohio, and Frank J. Cher. Of course, we cannot forget R. R. “Pop” Diliinger, McKees Rocks, Pa. who served many years as Tournament Secretary.

“Some of these men, many of them National Officers and Directors are not with us today. Twenty-five years later this Fraternal Activity is a tribute to their memory and great efforts. Little did our early workers realize that this would be one of our biggest yearly social and fraternal activities.

“This year we have 101 men’s and women’s teams competing for the handicap championships.”

Our Tournaments and Fellowship Days have become an integral part of our fraternal life and with the encouragement we receive from our Members who make up the bowling teams it is the intention of the Association to continue

4. Please write on the face of the check the certificate number or numbers and the amounts to be credited to each certificate for which the check is paying.

5. If you will follow the above procedure it will eliminate many difficulties with your insurance payments.----------->
