Julie Melnick Reporter 129 Columbus, Ohio A get-together party was held by members of Branch 129, in conjunction with our regular monthly meeting, to honor our dear member, Mr. Michael Deri Sr., on his 50th year as a member of William Penn Fraternal Association. Mr. Deri was a very active member and officer with the William Penn back in West Virginia for many years. Our regular meeting was opened by our Vice President, Mr. John Papai, at 7:30 P.M. The minutes were read by our able and capable secretary, Mrs. Evelyn Boucher. The treasury’s report was read by our old stand by Treasurer, Mr. Ben Secherson. Meeting was closed and the party proceeded. A fifty year pin was presented to Mr. Deri Sr., by our distinguished guest and Director Mr. Louis Vassy. His lovely wife also attended the affair. Mr. Vassy made a very touching and pleasing speech in commemoration and honor of Mr. Deri. Mr. A1 Kertesz, our distinguished Auditor from our Home Office, made a very delightful speech, stressing the importance of getting new members for Branch 129 in Columbus. Bill Kovach MEDICAL CORNER Pennsylvania Medical Society WHEN TO CALL A DOCTOR? It’s ridiculous to call or visit your physician for every cut, bruise, bump, singe or burp. Under those circumstances, physicians would be so busy with little things that they wouldn’t have enough time to take care of the big illnesses. However, when should you seek medical advice? The following four points are a general guide to help you decide whether medical aid should be sought at once: When the complaint or symptom is too severe to be endured, such as abdominal pain common to a gall bladder or appendicitis attack, or sudden chest pains; immediate relief is then the purpose of calling the doctor without delay. When an apparently minor symptom or symptoms persist for more than a few days or a week and do not seem to be due to some easily identified cause. A bleeding nose from being hit is one thing; a nose that bleeds constantly or frequently without injury is a different matter, and demands medical attention. When the symptom or symptoms return repeatedly for no easily recognizable cause. Indigestion due to overeating is one thing; constant digestion distress despite care and moderation in eating is another. It requires medical investigation. In any case where you are in doubt, it is safer to check with your physician than to take a chance. Thus, the four indications for medical attention are: severity, persistence, repetition and doubt.
