12 Introduction by the editor should read this book, which is an essential source of data for researchers dealing with the history and politics of that era. László Fejér publishes a special parallel biography about two engineers, outstanding personalities of the Hungarian water management bom 111 years ago: Emil Mosonyi and Imre Dégen. Their impact on the history of the country’s water management is unavoidable. Their different world views and careers ref­lect the really winding path of the Hungarian history. Recently several well-known water professionals, engineers with wide hori­zon have passed away, who had significantly contributed to the development of the national water administration and service in the past decades. They were promoters of the country’s water management, their lives were interwoven with the water sector. As time goes by outstanding figures of national water management leave us and the successors have the duty to remember them and preserve their heritage. They worked for the ambitious aim to rise Hungarian people, even when they were not considering that goal during the everyday activity. In the new series titled „ The great personalities of water administra­tion” their professional career, milestones of their engineering activity is recal­led. In this present issue the first director general of OVF Kálmán Rajczi and two late directors of regional water directorates Gyula Jancsó of Nyíregyháza and Kálmán Karászi of Székesfehérvár are remembered. Volume 1 of 2021 is closed with a sorrowful remembrance - In memóriám VITUK1. 10th of December 2020 the 15 storey building of the one-time VITUKI (Water Resources Research Centre) was blown up. It is however not the building what is mourned, but a research institute founded in 1952 carrying out diverse activity related to water during the decades until the liquidation process started in 2012. Historical responsibilities weight heavily upon those who directed the events into this direction, or did nothing to prevent them, although were in the position to do so...
