Budapest, 1985. * * * Water level vs. discharge relationship for the Zalaapáti station of the River Zala in 1992 by Dr. Zoltán SZIGYÁRTÓ D.Sc. anil Ferenc HORCHER, Civil Engineers Upon contract with the West-Transdanuhian District Water Authority the Szigyártó Engineering Company investigated the possibilities of establishing the most reliable discharge rating curve for the Zalaapáti hydrographie observation station, using the measurement data of 1992. In the first step of the investigations the relationship between measured water level (II) and discharge (Q) data was analyzed (Figure I). It was found that no hi variate relationship can be elaborated due to the high scattering of measurement data, especially at water levels below 1.4 m (Figure 2). Next the effects of the surface slope was analyzed and was found to be significant, resulting in discharge variation as high a 220% in some cases. Neither the utilization of the so called curve К which takes surface slope also into consideration, as defined by Hungarian Technical Guidelines MI10-251/4 (1985), yielded satisfactory results in the water stage domain below 1.4 m (Figure 3). It became obvious then that changes of the channel roughness affect considerably the Q-H rating curve too, in addition to the effects of the surface slope. Taking both the above effects into consideration the authors concluded that in this given case the so called "r-Curve" (as defined by the standard MI10-251/4) is the most suitable, from both theoretical and practical points of view, for establishing the discharge rating curve of the station (Figures 4 and 5). The authors finally conclude that in using the Q-H curve (Figure I), enveloping the set of measurement data from below, and the polygon which approximate the curve "r" (Figures 4 and 5) the standard deviation will be a=6.8%, which is smaller than the limit value of a-7.65% specified among the technical requirements of hydromelry (hydrology). * * * 5. ábra.
