310 Starosolszky Ödön Activitity of the World Meteorological Organization in hydrology and water resources development by Dr. Ö. STAROSOLSZKY The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) - a specialized agency of the United Nations'Organization - carries the responsibility to internationally develop, unite, and coordinate operational hydrology. The sub-organizations in charge are the Commission for Hydrology and the Department of Hydrology and Water Resources of the Secretariat in Geneva. The area of activity of this Commission for Hydrology covers basically the field of Operational Hydrology with interconnections and feed-backs inside the theme itself (Fig. 1.). Executors consist of working groups and rapporteurs. Their most important programs arc called Operational Hydrological Program (OHP) and the Hydrological Operational Multipurpose Subprogramme (HOMS) aimed at fostering a planned and organized transfer of technology. Operational hydrology stands for the planning of observation networks, development of instruments the methodology of observation, transmission and processing of data, hydrological analysis and forecasting, to determine data, for design, the planning of water management systems and the operation thereof. Important WMO programs are: World Climate Program (WCP) and World Weather Watch (WWW). WMO is publisher of a series of important publications fostering international uniformization of methods in hydrology. WMO is in cooperation with several international organizations. The long-term program of WMO is a driving force of international development. * * * Activité hydrologique et d'amenagement des ressources en eau de l'Organisation Meteorologique Mondiale Dr. Ödön STAROSOLSZKY L'OMM (WMO) est un des organismes spécialisés de l'ONU. Elle est responsable pour le développement international de l'hydrologie opérationnelle, y compris son unification et les rapports des services de prestation hydrologique. L'OMM a ses propres organismes spéciaux ayant une responsabilité pour l'hydrologie: Commission d'Hydrologie et le Département de l'Hydrologie et de l'Aménagement des Eaux du Secrétariat à Genève. Le domaine d'activité de la Commission d'Hydrologie est l'hydrologie opérationnelle. Ce comaine est représenté sur la Figure 1. La Commission déploit son activité par l'intermédiaire de ces groupes de travail et des travaux de ces rapporteurs. Dans la gamme des programmes de travail, le Programme de l'Hydrologie Opérationnelle (PHO-OHP) a une importance particulière. Le PHO a ses propres sous-programmes, comme le Sous-programme Multiobjectif de l'Hydrologie Opérationnelle (SMHO-HOMS) qui consiste á transférer la technologie d'une façon planifiée et organisée.
