546 Haszpra Ottó Impacts of the Dunakiliti Weir on groundwater in the Szigetköz area by Dr. O. HASZPRA The Gabcikovo-Nagymaros hydroelectric project will affect appreciably the groundwater conditions in the area situated on the right-hand side of the Danube section between Pozsony and Győr. Construction of the drain canal along the Dunakiliti-Hrusov reservoir (Figs. 3 — 5) will be necessary and sufficient in order to prevent waterlogging in the area and to guarantee the stability of the dike. A network of recharging canals (Fig. 7 ) is recommended to avoid any undesirable recession of the groundwater table. 32 m 3/s will infiltrate and 6 m 3/s will guarantee that no stagnant water occurs at the downstream end of the recharging canals. The behaviour of the recharging system is illustrated in Fig. 8 at the time of a steady flood flow of 10 600 m 3/s, corresponding to 1% probability of occurrence. In Table I detailed figures are presented on the seepage flows from and into the various channels. The performance of the drain canal and surrounding has been studied in detail in two-dimensional section models (Figs. 9 and 10). The studies by sections on the drain canal ( Fig. 11) provides information to designing stable slopes.
