Опыт применения показывает, что разработанное устройство с успехом может быть применено для иследования случайных колебаний. При исследованиях с индикаторами мы теперь имеем возможность регистрировать характеристики турбулентности и можем судить о влияниях под действием изменения характера турбулентности. Одновременно возможно и измерение таких параметров с помощью которых возможно судить о величине коэффициента диффузии и о виде перемешивания без применения индикаторов. * * * Instrumentation l'or mixing studies By J. Ormaij and dr. L. Somlijódtj, Mech. Engrs. The punched tape data storage unit and tlie applications thereof are described. The storage unit can be combined with the Delft current meter used in laboratory mixing studies or with a concentration meter connected to some type of digital voltage meter. The time base of velocity measurement may be 0,2, 0,284, 0,5 and 1,0 second, whereas that of concentration measurement is 0,284 second. The punched tape may be used directly as input for the mathematical-statistical analysis of data series on a Hewlett-Packard 9810 A desk computer. The application of the instruments and of the storage unit is illustrated by sensitivity tests on the velocity- and conductivity meter, further by some measurements of pulsation characteristics. The results of these investigations have demonstrated the suitability of the equipment developped for tracing random fluctuations. In this way it lias become possible to correlate the results of tracer studies with turbulence conditions, as well as to assess the effect of variations. At the same time we. have succeeded in determining quantities that provide information even without tracer studies on the diffusion coefficients and on the pattern of mixing.
