88 GUIDELINES FOR DESIGNING HOSE-TYPE IRRIGATION (Summary) The results of research and pilot-plant experiments related to hose-type surface irrigation have been summarized, with special regard to the requirements of the designer. This is why basic data and guidelines for designing surface irrigation plo- tes by the hose method are emphasised. The general principles underlying the hose method irrigation have been compiled. A special chapter has been devoted to the technical data of hoses of different materials potentially applicable to surface irrigation. A considerable portion deals with the hydraulic characteristics and dimensioning procedure of the hoses used for conveying and distributing the water. The various fittings, such as joints, feeders, closing organs, etc., needed for the hose method of surface irrigation have been described together with their main types and data. Contourline drawings and performance curves have also been attached on various pumping sets available on the market in Hungary and applicable in hose-type surface irrigation systems. Beyond the description of basic data, the composition of some typical sizes of hose irrigation equipment, as well as the main hydraulic and technical characteristics thereof are detailed in a separate chapter. The text is accompanied by 28 figures and 4 tables.
