A Fővárosi Vízművek 2001-ben nyilvános tervpályázatot hirdetett a víztorony tervezési munkáira. A beérkezett 22 érvényes pályamű közül a szakmai zsűri a Narthex Építészeti Kft. tervét választotta ki megvalósításra.

A nyertes páLyamű kiválasztásakor lényeges szempont volt, hogy az építmény kiemelkedő építészeti és esztétikai értéket képviselve illeszkedjék a védett környezetébe.

A díjnyertes, építészetileg egyedülálló, statikai szempontból rendkívül bonyolult, aszimmetrikus kehellyel épülő torony megvalósítása komoly szakmai kihívás elé állította mind a tervezőket, mind a kivitelezőt.

Mivel építkezés közben a kivitelező társaság csődbe ment, a bonyolult pénzügyi helyzet többéves csúszást eredményezett.

Budapest Water Works put the construction of the water tower up for public tender at the end of 2001. Out of the 22 accepted applications the professional committee chose Narthex Construction Ltd.

In choosing the winning applicant, it was an important consideration that the building should be of significant architectural and aesthetic value, and that it should compliment the style of the protected area. This unique water tower with its very complicated statics and asymmetric cup- shape posed a considerable challange for both the designer and the construction team.

The contractors went bankrupt and the complicated financial situation caused several years of delay.
