Figure 1. Map of Yankari Game Reserve, northern Nigeria, with collecting localities Indicated Bats Pteropidae Eidolon helvum (Kerr, 1792) Material: Futuk, 6-7 August 1978, 1 do*. A large colony of this species roosted on Cotton-Silk trees In the town and other colonies were observed in villages all along the perimeter of the reserve. I see no reason why it should not occur within Yankari, especially as Borassus palms, often used as roosting and feeding sites by this species, are abundant along the rivers. Both males had scrotal testes. Epomophorus gambianus (Ogilby, 1835) X Material: Dagudi, 23 July 1978, 1 9. Wikky, 3 July 1978,1 9. The specimen from Dagudi was pregnant, and was collected from a large colony roosting in a tree in the village. The specimen from Wikki was lactating, and came from a colony which was roosted with large numbers of Mlcropteropus pusillus . In July they congregated to feed on flowering baobab trees. Micropteropus pusillus Matsche, 1899 Material: Wikki, 22 July-2 August 1978, 9 specimens. Sex ratio ló": 2 9. One 9 was pregnant with a single nearly full-term embryo. M. pusillus is not a particularly gregarious species (ROSEVEAR, 1965), and consequently it is less frequently observed than some other gregarious species. In Yankari G.R., however, M. pusillus greatly outnumbers Epomophorus gambianus. HAPPOLD & HAPPOLD (1978) mention the Shaffini-New Bussa area as another locality where this species is abundant between August and December. I observed
