The First Occurence of the Sandwich Tern (Sterna s. sandvicensis Latham) in Hungary By Á. G y ère si y , Budapest The Sandwich Tern ( Sterna s. sandvicensis LATHAM) was not yet observed in Hungary. This very interesting bird is a new species in the avifauna of Hungary. The first specimen was shot by myself 4 km to the S of the village Szabadszál­lás, in the Great Plains between the Danube and the Tisza on 16 May 1967« The bird was an adult male in an excellent nuptial plumage. Its measurements are the bigest for the species; wing 325, tail 170, tarsus 30, bill 58 mm. It wore a ring: Vogelwarte Helgoland Germania 6209477. Irodalom - References 1.
