Notes on the Application of a Reduced DSscriminancy Analysis in the Taxonomsc Study of Fishes By L Berinkey end Gy- Tusnádi Zoological Department of the Hungarian Natural History Museum, Budapest and Chair of Zoology, Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Keszthely Authors compared two populations of Gobio kessleri kessler i and Gobio kessleri kessler i natio banaticus by the application of PENROSE'S reduced discriminatory analysis. In spite of the fact that there were shown but slight differences of size between the two forms, examinations resulted in definite segregations. Authors therefore raise the question in how far the results of the reduced dicriminatory analysis can be evaluated teconomically. To settle the problem, discriminatory analysis calculations were first made on two samples taken from the same population of Alburnoides bipunctatu s,later reiterated on a greater number of specimens. Calculations resulted in both cases in the segregation of tue samples. Authors had therefore drawn the conclusion that the applied method will surely be utilizable in a number of sciences, but, due to the very sensitivity of the discriminatory analysis »results received must be carefully considered when evaluated taxonomically to avoid wholly erroneous inferences .
